Morecambe and Wise Show - Series 8
Review date: 2010-08-11 Rating: 10 out of 10
Another excellent series from the best comedy partnership there will ever be.
Bought all the series and cannot pick the best as I have not been disappointed by any. All the sketches are well written and the two are past masters of getting the very best out of the sketch.

The 1974 ShowReview date: 2010-08-10 Rating: 10 out of 10Eric and Ernie are on top form here, delivering comedy gold in abundance. And they have to, because the material they've been given this time is lacklustre to say the least.
As with the previous 1973 series, there are very few sketches per show, meaning the final sketch often takes between 25 - 30 minutes. On the plus side, that means the vast majority of it is fresh, as only the barest clips made it onto Best Of compilations.
Episode 2 had irrepairable picture faults, so there are the occasional freeze frames, but overall they rarely distract.
The packaging must win prizes for being the most irrelevant set of pictures ever. The front picture (Hands Off Little Ern) is from the 1973 series, and the three on the back are from the 1975 Christmas Special. And they promise 7 episodes, when the series only has 6 epsiodes to start with.
Not a classic by any means, but Eric & Ernie show here that even with semi-okay material they can deliver the goods. (One episode even turns into a clip show!)
Their Christmas shows sparkle, but sometimes, as here, their weekly shows need just a dab more focus. Not from the stars, but from the backstage boys.I could see the join!Review date: 2010-08-09 Rating: 6 out of 10I am a big fan, I have all other dvds but this one arrived and two of the episodes appeared on both discs meaning two episodes where missing. I think it may have been a rushed release. Not quite more of the sameReview date: 2010-07-23 Rating: 4 out of 10OK, before I start I have to admit to being a mad fan of Morecambe and Wise, and so far have bought every series as they are released. I grew up with this style of humour and these 2 men are sacred in my household. Maybe it's the memory of sitting in front of the TV together as a family and laughing out loud, and because of that they get 2 stars. I love the fact that full seasons are bing released on DVD, but this is my least favourite season so far.
Let's start by looking at the content:
This is not one of the better seasons. Due to a change in the production team, it didn't quite have the same quality as the previous years. Firstly there were not the big name guest stars (no Cliff, Cilla or Lulu here). Each episode had one major musical solo number - in this series it was always the same person, Wilma Reading, despite her coming from Australia I had never actually heard of her before. I guess there were budget cuts. There is not the abundance of Ernie's plays to amuse us. At one stage they even re use old episodes by showing a BBC manager a scrapbook of photos. All of which are a link to previous episodes and lead into clips from those episodes.
On the positive side the harmonica player does come out regularly and start playing (not now Arthur!) and there are a few musical numbers with Eric and Ern dancing and singing. We also get a return visit from Andrew Preview (Andre Previn).
As for quality, there is fine print on the back mentioning that there are some issues with the quality due to the age of the material. Basically its old footage to start with, but the picture is clean enough. The image in episode 2 does stutter a few times (where the picture was lost or damaged) - but its bearable and the sound quality remains constant.
Finally, on the cover it clearly states that this set contains all 7 episodes of season 8. It doesn't. There are only 6 episodes here - episode 7 that year was the Christmas Episode - and it is not included. You only have 6 episodes - 3 on each disc.
If, like me, you have collected all of the series - you will probably buy this one as well. If you have never bought a Morecambe and Wise set before - you are better off buying Morecambe & Wise - Christmas Specials [DVD]- or an earlier season - like Morecambe And Wise - Series 6 - Complete [DVD] [1972].
