Manufacturer's Description

Step onto the pitch and play professional football your way in FIFA 09. Experience the most authentic football simulation EA Sports has delivered as you live the fantasy of playing as a professional player and customise the game to suit your style and ability.

Powered by the third generation of the EA Sports football engine, FIFA 09 features more than 250 core gameplay additions and enhancements that deliver the most responsive, intelligent and realistic action ever for the series. Enjoy turning defenders with more controlled dribbling and ball control, snapping off precision shots with improved first-time shooting mechanics and firing beautifully timed passes with greater accuracy, placing the ball exactly where you want it.

With new player momentum physics the speed and weight of the player determines everything from the distance of a slide tackle and the power of a header to the severity of player collisions and the height of a player's jump. Plus, players now behave according to their physical attributes with larger, stronger players dominating collisions, battles for control of the ball, and position in challenges for two player headers.

Fifa 09 disappointing

Got this for my 13 year old son. He was disappointed with the graphics on this. However, this is likely to be because he has seen it played on an xbox which is superior.

plays better than the XBOX360 version and is more fun than Pro Evo 9. graphics not amazing, but everything else is superb. lots of cool features and, as a previously dedicated Pro Evo fan, it's nice to have the proper names. fifa has finally caught up!

Enjoyable but flawed...

Well, I first got into Fifa when 07 come and I have been playing that ever since. However it recently broke and I decided to take a step forward from 07 and decided to by this game. I was fairly optimistic, having played the PS3 version with my friend, and I knew it was not going to be as good as the PS3 version, but I still thought it was worth getting. I was a bit disappointed however when it arrived. I begun playing it and within an hour I was yet to find anything new or original about it. The graphics are depressingly similar to 07 and it is the same story with the commentary and the cut-scenes. Apart from a few tweaks and turns, I was at a loss to where the '350 new animations' had gone. In each team that wasn't in the premier league, there was around two players who looked like they belonged and then the rest all looked exactly the same!

Aside from this I have still given the game a 4 star rating. Despite my primary opinions I began to enjoy the game. The actual gameplay had turned out quite well. I found it a lot harder than the other Fifa's, which I was pleased about because I was getting bored with being able to thrash Chelsea 5-0 with someone like Barnet. In other Fifa's, the play was very predictable, after a while you began to master the player so you knew which way to turn and it began to get tedious being able to get past the defense so easily, this is much better though, you don't know which way the game will turn and it comes out as an overall much more exciting game.

Another point which attracted me was the 'Be a Pro' Setting where you can choose a player to be and then play with him on his own. It adds a new dynamic feel to the game and I think they have pulled it off very well, although it is almost impossible for your own team to score without you and by the end of the season you end up being basically the only scorer.

Anyway, I think they could have done a lot more if they wanted, and the end result seems as though they have just spent 1 or 2 days tweaking the previous game to make it look slightly newer, as if they have just given up on it and concentrated solely on the PS3 version.
