Doc Martin not funny! Impossible?
Review date: 2008-11-07 Rating: 4 out of 10

Having bought and watched Series 1 & 2 in their entirity (and loved them), I am very disappointed with this film. There is no charm, and no feel-good factor from watching it - I was not looking for sugary, safe entertainment, but I was both disturbed and bored well before the end..sorry, a mistaken purchase.

what's up doc?

Sorry to let the side down, but I was very disappointed in this movie.

Obviously, there is a different writer, and what works so well in the series - lots of little plots all feeding into each other, just did not work so well in a feature film. I hate to admit I was frequently bored, and my husband fell asleep? It just was not funny enough and the guns, explosives, con men and unmedicated bi polar loony looked a bit ridiculous at times. Martin Clunes was a gem as usual and I quite liked the stuffy man from the medical board but all else was well, 'nuff said.
Please give us back the series, poor Caroline Catz looked ill at ease and deserves another crack at getting a decent ending for us all.

Pure Doc Martin

I know that reviews are subjective and I was only inspired to write this one to balance the scales. The review from the person who didn't like this so much is their fair opinion.I am not here to knock their right to such an opinion.
But, I think that this is a normal, entertaining episode of Doc Martin with all the usual skill and quality that we have seen in each series. With a little extra. Fantastic guest cast. Quality acting as per usual from the regulars. I must add that I was pleased to see Chris O'Dowd doing his Manic turn.Kenneth Cranham is one of the best character actors around, playing Caroline Catz's Dad.
The film was well paced and the laughs came when needed. Understated and even though I knew what was coming, it still made me laugh.
Enjoyable.Thank you to the Cast and Crew.

surprisingly dull
Review date: 2008-10-03 Rating: 4 out of 10

My husband and I LOVE this series, but we were very surprised at the dull writing and boring pace of this mini movie. We had figured that, as the follow-up to the utterly hilarious and touching end to season two, this would continue in the same vain. Instead, my husband fell asleep and I found myself wanting to fast forward many scenes. The plot progression and new characters were strangely below par, and the recurring characters seemed to strain when delivering poorly written dialogue. The only exception I would make is "doctor's friend", who turns up to review complaints about the Doc's bedside manner. This character was delicious and worked very well at bringing out wonderfully horrible behavior from the Doc.

Granted, the movie does provide valuable background for the character of Louisa Glasson. And there are a few moments that are quite funny. But overall, I wish I hadn't spent the money. All I really needed to know is that Ms. Glasson's dad is a thief and a gambler who stole from a Portwenn charity, and that her mom left them when she was very young. Apparently, the producers have decided to make Caroline Catz's character equally as damaged as Martin Clunes', which seems to make sense.

Sad to rate this so low. But honestly, if you're thinking of buying this because you want to know how the two lead characters get on, save your money for series three (which, by the way, is excellent). It took all of three minutes at the end of season two to improve the plot between the two lead characters. Yet absolutely nothing new or interesting happens between them in the 91 minutes contained in this movie. I just hope the writers responsible for this will be gone by season four.

Brilliant

British series at its best,as good as any episode in the series,Clunes as usual is superb. In response to the other review we dont get where most of american tv is at,so I presume vise versa.
