not bad but not good
Review date: 2008-10-12 Rating: 4 out of 10
I really used to like Oasis and not just the first 2 albums but this album really is lazy and unimaginative. Every track's roots can be traced back to some other, usually Beatles, song ( and no body moan to me that this is an old and easy argument, you listen to the CD, Tomorrow Never Knows, Dear Prudence, Paperback Writer..all there ). That annoying tub thumping drum beat on nearly every track, sometimes faster sometimes slower. Where are the melodies that Noel used write so sweet where are the lyrics that could paint our gray urban streets so bright? Can't find a single trace of it here.
Liam's voice does sound better than it has done for a while there's a plus.
It's not a bad album if you didn't know who it was by but from Oasis you know they were capable of much more.

Best Since SupersonicReview date: 2008-09-03 Rating: 10 out of 10Oasis breathed much needed life into the British music scene 15 years ago: Their audience was growing tired of waiting for a second Stone Roses effort and was in danger of being lobotomised by an influx of moody shoegazing "college rock" bands from the USA. When I first heard Supersonic and Cigarettes and Alcohol played by the band supporting Verve at a Manchester Uni gig in December 1993, it was a moment of enlightenment. Impatient to know more about Oasis, it was frustrating to discover that it would be a wait of four months before the lads released their first single - but well worth it.
For those who make the comparison to Status Quo, well, it has been said before and it is always better to have your own opinions than to dine out on somebody else's (Mr. Albarn's)from yesteryear. Remember Quoasis? The band do have a sense of humour. For those who say "samey", that is an age old accusation levelled at Oasis and is now moribund Mr Partridge.
The Shock of the Lightning recaptures the enthusiasm that surrounded the release of Supersonic. Dig Out Your Soul is a tour de force and is clearly the best album since Definitely Maybe. Oasis are now the elder statesmen of British Rock and their ability to reinvent themselves is now on a scale comparable to U2. This is the league Oasis are now in.Absolutely brilliant.Review date: 2008-09-02 Rating: 10 out of 10Absolutely brilliant, classic songs, The shock of lightening & Falling Down.
