Viva What Happens In Vegas!
Review date: 2008-11-09 Rating: 8 out of 10

If you're looking at a listing for an Ashton Kutcher movie, you should know what to expect. If you hate him, stop reading now...if you like him, you'll probably like this film.

There's nothing groundbreaking or particularly original (the movie is quite similar to Just Married, also starring Kutcher), but it's generally likeable and fun. Not much more that can be written really...you can probably tell from the outset if you'll be interested.

The digital copy (see video above), really adds value to the package, as digital versions of movies generally cost around £11. The ability to watch the movie on your iPod (or other selected portable devices) is a nice free extra!

Another Rom-Com that fails to pack a punch
Review date: 2008-07-04 Rating: 4 out of 10

I am beginning to find an all to common familiarity when i watch movie trailers, that is that if all the clips from the trailer happen within the first half hour to forty-five minutes you should have only have paid half the price for your cinema ticket, as that is all your going to watch of the movie.

Cameron Diaz hasn't shown her face in a movie since the hit 'The Holiday' and since then has only done Shrek, this applies also for Ashton Kutcher who hasn't starred in a movie since 'The Guardian' and only did a voice over for the movie 'Open Season'. So they both have not actually had to do any acting since 2006. That is quite a long time. Unfortunately it shows.

The story simply goes as follows, Joy McNally (Diaz) breaks up with her fiance and so goes off to Vegas with her friend using the tickets she bought for his birthday, Jack Fuller (Kutcher) gets fired by his father and goes with his friend to Vegas to celebrate unemployment. They all bump into one another in a hotel room mix up, Jack and Joy get drunk and sleep with each other and get married. They both didn't realise they got married, freak out and agree for divorce, Jack uses a quarter in the casino from Joy and wins $3,000,000. In court the judge denies the divorce after a little bit of marital preaching and they have to put up with each other for 6 months and make an effort for the marriage to determine how the money is split, the story goes on from there.

As i said earlier it is enjoyable for about the first 45 minutes, the bitchy comments and funny scenes make it bearable to watch, then this continues and continues and continues...AND NEVER ENDS!!!! I can't help but think the Director became highly uninventive and practically gave up. It got to the point where my mind switched off after an hour and the last half-hour of the film was practically blanked.

Ashton Kutcher unfortunately seems a little mature in this film, he has lost his originality, that whole cheeky boy act he puts on. That appears up until they return from Vegas, from then on he is just, well boring. Cameron in my eyes becomes really irritating, she should really have 'B**CH' across her forehead, fine this is her character but that also becomes monotonous and boring.

The uncreativity of this movie is also reflected in the strong similarity to 'The Break Up' with Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston. This was also another flop and definetly not a movie for any Director to aspire to. The similarity comes in the whole having to 'deal' with each other and trying to catch each other out. The attempt of trying to irritate each other, much like 'The Break Up', 'What Happens in Vegas' not only involved characters irritating each other but irritating me! Which when tring to get someone to watch the film really isn't the look your going for.

Why 2 Stars?

It was funny in parts and it's nice to see Kutchers and Diaz's faces again after such a long time.

Why not anything higher?

It does not revive the genre of Rom-Com, in fact it shoes how narrow the band of creativeness is for this genre.
