As light and frothy as the Vivienne Westwood wedding gown that's an unofficial fifth star, the film version of Sex and the City is both captivatingly stylish and sweetly sentimental. Viewers who loved hanging with Carrie Bradshaw and her three pals during the series' TV run will feel as though no time has passed. Except that it has: Carrie and Big are poised to make a Big Commitment; Miranda and Steve are facing the breakup of their wonderful family; Charlotte and Harry have added to their brood; and Samantha (are we sitting down?) has been devoted to hunky Smith for five full years. Still, in all that time, the women's style, conviviality, and appetite for bons mots have only grown. When practical attorney Miranda learns that Carrie is considering moving in with Big (in possibly the coolest apartment in Manhattan), she can't help but frown in that but-you-might-lose-everything way. Carrie's retort: "For once, can't you feel what I want you to feel--jealous?!" The cast is spot-on, as always. Sarah Jessica Parker is effortless as the angst-ridden yet practical, stylish yet vulnerable Carrie. Kim Cattrall is deliciously decadent as Samantha, but she's wiser now and knows herself and her needs for a real relationship. Kristin Davis, as Charlotte, has quietly become the most gorgeous among the beauties, her sleek presence both winsome and sophisticated. And Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) shows nuance as a woman torn between betrayal and grudging hope. Supporting roles include Candice Bergen as the Vogue editor who anoints Carrie "The Last Single Girl in New York," and Jennifer Hudson, as a starry-eyed, ambitious romantic who represents the new generation of SATC women. Through it all, New York is a benevolent cocoon that envelopes and nurtures the women and their friendships and careers. No matter that none of them appears to have any semblance of "real" family; as long as they have each other, and Manhattan, all will be right with their world. --A.T. Hurley

Some of it was boring n cringeworthy but seeing the girls again was gr8 n watching the moral support displayed for Carrie after being jilted by Big was awesome. She was in Mexico on what was meant to be her honeymoon in bed..erm alone!
Bought it last week n watched it twice already!!

It kinda got me to thinking................LOVED ITReview date: 2008-10-02 Rating: 8 out of 10Fans of the original show that have written negative reviews of the film obviously haven't watched any episodes recently. I admit that there is a major amount of product placement and some of the characters don't get enough time in the film (there is only a limited amount of time!!)but on the whole this film follows the format of the TV show. I have just finished re-watching the first season and all they way through Carrie is overwhelmed with anxiety about her relationship with BIG. And here we are...so many years later..... and the film is about Carrie's heartache over BIG. Samanatha's storyline suits her character from the TV series. In fact, the line she says to Smith 'I love me more than you' is used in series five when she breaks up with Richard! Charlotte and Harry's plot is included to show the happiness some people manage to find and to contrast with Carrie and Miranda's sadness. Miranda's storyline is brilliantly done. Please please ignore the negative reviews if you loved the TV series.....really this is more of the same excellent SATC.A Fairy TaleReview date: 2008-10-02 Rating: 6 out of 10Unlike the most excellent series, this is a comedy without the comedy, one liners, dating insight and philosophy that we are used to.
It's good to see the girls once again but only serves the ultimate closure with fairy tale endings for all concerned.not a bit like the seriesReview date: 2008-10-01 Rating: 2 out of 10This has got to be the biggest disappointment I have ever bought. I loved the series with a passion--same as a lot of married with children women of that age. This film though seems to have been written by a bunch of scriptwriters who have never seen any of the series, just have a vague idea what its about, who then sit down to play chinese whispers while they write. After half an hour i was checking the small print on the case to see how much longer i had to sit through. This would have been a lot better if it had been condenced to two twenty minute episodes to run as the finale of series 6. On the positive side.... i think i want to be a scriptwriter as you obviously don't need any talent to script a hit.A bloke's viewReview date: 2008-10-01 Rating: 10 out of 10This is a really good movie. I loved it. Not just a chick flick. It's very thoughtful and very funny, and follows on well from the series. If you expect it to be like the series then you'll hate it, but then it's not part of the series, it's a movie....
