Ouch!
Review date: 2008-11-21 Rating: 2 out of 10
Considering this production is one that is full of A-list first class actors, it certainly doesn't feel like it. I have to say this is one of the worst films I have seen in my entire life.
The acting and the script is the biggest let down, it's as though they were all reading from an autoque. The acting was wooden, especially from Ray Liotta... child acting is better to be quite honest.
The role was certainly not for Jason Statham, he is way beyond this kind of film. What a come down.
Please, do yourself a favour when considering this... don't buy it, at best it compares to the legendary journeys of hercules. At worse a really REALLY cheap rip off of lord of the rings.
Bottom line... A pathetic attempt.

It isn't that bad reallyReview date: 2008-11-14 Rating: 6 out of 10Certainly no classic, and some sections of over long dialogue make it drag in places, but it is not a disaster. I really didn't like Burt Reynolds as the king, he just doesn't have the presence to carry it off. But other than that the characters do an ok job with sloppy direction. There are a lot of loose ends, for example what happened to M. Lillard's character? What happened to Christina Lokken after she sloped off across the mountain? It is certainly no worse than some of those daft 1980's fantasy films, eg Krull so give it a go but not with high expectations.
UnderratedReview date: 2008-09-26 Rating: 10 out of 10I got In the Name of the King as part of a recommendation from a friend, I didn't expect much and I knew nothing about the negativity surrounding it. I have to say going into it, I didn't expect a blockbuster as I'd never heard of it but was surprised to see the A List cast in this movie. Statham, Liotta, Reynolds & Perlman are three names from past, present and future and all blend together to make this movie enjoyable.
The story goes that an evil sorcerer named Gallian (Liotta) controls an evil race of half animal half human warriors. He sets to use these creatures to take over the Kingdom, but he sets upon the wrong person and due to an attack on a village the son of Farmer (Statham) is killed and his wife is kidnapped. Farmer sets out to get revenge against Gallian but first he has to track him down with friends Bastian (Sanderson) & Norick (Perlman). Along the way we're also introduced to the accomplice of Gallian, Duke (Lillard) who's one of the more eccentric characters and adds to it the comic relief.
You can clearly see that this movie is aspiring to be a Lord of the Rings type movie with the mythical monsters and magic. It was never meant to be, however, due to the fact that it had nowhere near a LOTR budget and the fact it was a Uwe Boll movie. With what they had they did brilliantly and personally this was Stathams best performance to date.awful...avoid at all costsReview date: 2008-09-22 Rating: 2 out of 10Wow! This is bad. Really bad. I'm a huge fan of Statham's films as they're usually good fun but this is an exception. A cast with a fair number of actors who should know better than to star in a film this poor have to make do with a bargin basement lord of the rings. An Evil sorcerrer plans to rule the world with the aid of his army of sub human creatures (sound familiar?). Poor acting ahoy and you'll wonder just why this film was ever made. Poor special effects, hammy acting but save your money as this will be on channel 5 before to long. Certainly the worst film i've watching in a long time (and there have been plenty). So bad it hurtsReview date: 2008-09-05 Rating: 2 out of 10I like Jason Statham as an action hero and with a cast that also included Burt Reynolds and Ray Liotta I was willing to give In the Name of the King a go. I really wish I hadn't. These guys were so miscast that it bordered on the hilarious.
Can you picture Burt Reynolds as the king. No....neither could Burt Reynolds.... and he doesn't even try. Picture his nephew and heir? Do you see Matthew Lillard! No....me neither. How could anyone possibly take a fantasy epic with Burt Reynolds and Matthew Lillard as the only royalty in evidence as anything other than a joke? Lillard plays himself, and his hamminess is only outdone by Ray Liotta as the evil wizard villain. Liotta is so amazingly bad it's hard to believe he would sign up for this garbage. I also don't quite understand why Ray Liotta was dressed like Liberace. I expected him at any moment to stop controlling the evil beasties and start playing the piano. He certainly had the cheesy banter and flamboyant moves down pat.
Jason Statham's performance wasn't awful, but his character was such a cardboard cliché; the humble farmer with phenomenal fighting skills and a mysterious past. The physical effort Stratham puts into the fight scenes and stunts is astonishing but even he can't save this movie from everything else that's wrong with it.
To sum up - the dialog is awful, the writing is yawn-inducing, add the one-dimensional characters and you've got nothing going for this movie. The person responsible for writing this story seems to have ripped off nearly a dozen different fantasy films without bothering to veil the attempt. This movie was definitely one of the top ten worst films I've ever seen.
