More deserving than a number of the other folk compilations
Review date: 2009-10-30 Rating: 10 out of 10

Just to support the majority of the reviewers. I got this to make up the difference required for free Amazon postage a year or two ago and was pleasantly surprised, to say the least, expecting to listen once , maybe hear a good song, two if lucky, and then toss it to one side. But no ways. It's staying firmly in my collection as it's a darn site better a compilation than quite a few of those I've heard.

It is highly unlikely you will not enjoy this varied and charming album of great music by talented musicians.

Best Folk Sampler ever!
Review date: 2009-10-05 Rating: 10 out of 10

No duff tracks and lots of gems - this is the best sampler in any genre I've ever bought - and one of the cheapest!

Just do it!

A great great sampler. If this was dusty vinyl from 1970 it would be one of thse classic collectors compilations . Overall excellent stuff, theres no duff stuff, but obviously all that listen will have their favourites. The price is great too as it revives the spirit of what a sampler shuld be. Good stuff .

a must buy

If you have any remote interest in folk music, or just think you might like it, go ahead and buy this CD without any further deliberation. At the price, it's a giveaway. Perhaps it will join the ranks of Camembert Electrique (58p) or 24 Carat Purple? Both "cheap" albums in their day, and in many a record collection for this very reason. It's far better that either of these however.

There's a good selection of fine performers on here, and although you may already be familiar with some, there are a few new surprises in this collection for you. I found myself a new favourite, "Never any good with money".

Bye-the-way, most of it isn't tradtional finger-in-the-ear folk music. Just great songs, performed by diverse singers with great voices.

The cover is naff, but that's the worst thing I can say about it.

A mixed bag
Review date: 2009-08-23 Rating: 8 out of 10

For the price, this is not a bad collection of songs. But it is a mixed bag - some excellent tracks, some not so good. It is a sampler ... and a great way to try out some new artists.
