Album Description
Long American highways, open top cars and classic American rock... The perfect ingredients for a double CD that takes you back to the days when the hair was long and the trousers were tight.
Bringing back to life the massive compilation brand of yesteryear, 'American Heartbeat' sounds as fresh today as it did back then.
2 CDs of pulsating 80's rock classics from the likes of Whitesnake, Billy Idol and Boston plus the massive 'I Want You To Want Me' from Cheap Trick, which was recently being used in a Kellogg's TV commercial.
Fantasic Album although not a classic like orinal

Great Compliation for AOR enthusiastsReview date: 2008-04-20 Rating: 10 out of 10Great songs - the original was relatively compact (believe it was only 16 songs) as it was from the ye olde vinyl /cassette days where you only had an hour tops. The CD additions generally make sense (Bill Idol aside) but I recall that the original also contained "I Got You" by Split Enz (which was a big US hit in the early 80s, and is also another great song). Obviously Split Enz are not American (they are from New Zealand ; the Finn brothers went on to form Crowded House), which makes the absence of this song and the presence of "Rebel Yell" even more strange.
Oh...and "Carry On Wayward Son" is awesome !Can't get better if this is your thingReview date: 2008-04-19 Rating: 8 out of 10Superb selection, well planned, classic tracks.
Just one thing - Billy Idol is English. I know he comes over all Yankee, but he's English. Someone in the team of faceless execs who put this together needs slapping and sacking.
Other than that, this is a great compilation. Brilliant memoriesReview date: 2008-04-19 Rating: 10 out of 10Had this on tape as a kid, searched a few years back for a cd version of the original. Great that this has been released, agree though with other reviewer, what is billy idol doing on it? Other tracks that have been added though do give the album a nice freshness.
MemoriesReview date: 2008-04-16 Rating: 10 out of 10My dad had this compilation on tape in the 80's and we've been looking for it for ages. Should bring back lots of memories of long trips in the car and us all singing along. Hope it's just as good now they've added some more songs in too!!
