Lumet's melodrama is a story of a heist gone bad, planned by two brothers (desperate for the money for differing reasons)on their parents jewellery store and the subsequent effects that it has on the family and others as events spiral out of control. Seymour-Hoffmann produces yet another outstanding performance as the elder sibling, ably supported by Hawke, Tomesei and Finney. The film, whose plot timeline shifts as the story is pieced together in a splendid fashion, has an almost 'Coenesque' feel about it and is maybe not what you would expect from the director of classics such as 12 Angry Men, Serpico and Network.
The film was shot using HD cameras so not surprisingly the cinematography on this 16:9 blu-ray transfer looks great and the films attractive score is rendered well on the HD audio. The extras are very sparse but include a commentary and making of featurette. The disc is coded 'B' only. Well worth a look and one that will probably be more appreciated with time.
