Disappointing
Review date: 2008-11-15 Rating: 6 out of 10

Tess Finnegan (Kate Hudson) is disappointed in the way her life has turned out and has decided to give up on the romantic dreams of nautical treasure hunting she had shared with her irresponsible husband. Tess decides to straighten her life out, by divorcing her husband and getting a steady job... working on the yacht of an eccentric multimillionaire (Donald Sutherland). Unfortunately for Tess's plans, her erstwhile husband 'Finn' Finnegan (Matthew McConaughey), a dreamer with a passion for both undersea treasure hunting AND Tess is not prepared to give up on either of his loves!

I really liked the premise of this film, but found myself a bit let down by the reality. Although there is some bickering between the leads, and Hudson and McConaughey are both likeable and eminently watchable, there is a distinct lack of witty banter or chemistry. Instead, there is an awkward, contrived plot that is implausible (without being sufficiently so to be really funny). As rom coms go, this is less of a firecracker and more of a damp squib.

A waste of two fine comedy actors! :-(
Review date: 2008-10-17 Rating: 4 out of 10

Let me begin by saying that if you enjoyed SAHARA, then you can disregard this review as you will most likely quite enjoy this film. However, if you've not seen it or hated it, read on...

For the first 40 minutes of the film, Kate and Matthew are on screen together for no more than 5 minutes which was disappointing enough and then when they ARE together, the spark and chemistry the two had on HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS, just isn't here at all. The characters don't dazzle when they're on their own either.

I'm a huge fan of Matthew's and really like Kate too but both are oh so disappointing in this film and are lacking their usual charm. Don't blame them though - blame the writers/director/producers! Matthew & Kate's characers bicker constantly but there's no passion in their bickering - I'm guessing it's SUPPOSED to be funny but it's just not.

Fourty minutes into the film, you think the treasure hunt story is finally about to take off but it really doesn't and there's just more talking. Infact, the film really doesn't pick up pace at all until an hour and twenty minutes into the film - that's a LONG time when you realize the film's about to finish soon! I hate to say it, but the film is excruciatingly slow with nothing much going on. There are a few classic Kate moments and the last 20 minutes are enjoyable but it's just not enough to save the film.

I was rooting for this to be a fantastic romantic comedy adventure but it's nowehere close. What a waste of two very fine comedic actors! I highly recommend watching HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS instead; it's a sharp, funny, dazzling romcom and Kate & Matthew have genuine chemistry. And if you're in the mood for a treasure hunt adventure film, get your hands on the much faster-paced NATIONAL TREASURE instead! ...It pains me to say it but whatever you do, just give Fool's Gold a miss

What are you all talking about??
Review date: 2008-06-27 Rating: 8 out of 10

I dont know what you are all talking about. I loved this film!! I went with hubby and we both really enjoyed it! If you liked Sahara (which I also loved) you will like Fools Gold. Its a not a film to be taken seriously mind you, it gets a bit far fetched but its not one that you are meant to take too seriously!

Ally Ormond Is Just Jealous!
Review date: 2008-06-22 Rating: 8 out of 10

I am the obsessed girlfriend of Ally Ormond and I would like to add that the review he gave this film is purely down to jealously and the fact that he has a beer gut and not a boy like Matthew McConaughey!

FOOLS Gold

I was made to watch this movie by a Matthew McConaughey obsessed girlfriend, I wanted to see Ironman instead. Yet, once i was made to watch it; i realise what a waste of an hour and half of my life. Please to do not watch this movie
