What a brilliant film. I watched this last night and I have to say this film had so many twists that I was literally chained to my seat. The great thing about this movie is that just when you start to feel sympathy for one character another twist appears which makes you totally change your mind. I never so the end scene coming, and that is the mark of a great film ith some brilliant actors, I really recommend it!

Intriguing thriller
Review date: 2008-09-11 Rating: 6 out of 10

A fast moving, action-packed and intriguing thriller in the style of Michael Douglas's film "The Game". Pierce Brosnan plays a convincingly sinister character in a role that is as far from Bond, Thomas Crowne or Remington Steele as you could care to imagine; however, I was less than convinced by some of the other acting and of course there is always the point in such films where you think "Well why on earth would you do that?". Overall though an entertaining and watchable film with a nice twist at the end.

Good but nothing special

Hmmm. I'll start by saying i enjoyed this film, but it left nothing in my mind afterwards. It didn't have any big bang ideas or groundbreaking film-making, or memorable performances. Twas nice to see Pierce with his accent in place, playing what is nicely a 3dimensional character - but his script is a little flat. You don't get the impression he put a lot of oomph into it. The same goes for most of the production. It looks and feels as if it was filmed in a week, with the actors doing it for fun, as opposed to making a mark in the filming industry. In fact, it looks like a straight to DVD release (i am unsure whether it was or not, for it did not appear in cinemas here in the UK, to my knowledge). However, all this said, its not bad, not at all. If you are a particular fan of one of the three protagonists (Brosnan, Butler or Bello) then i'd definitely give it a try, for they're all quite watchable, but, i reiterate again, don't expect anything special.

All rather empty, really...

Well, this just isn't a very good film. As film-genres go, a thriller is one of my favourites - the term itself can mean a variety of things. It can be something that sticks in your head, tension and intriguing plot twists keeping you interested. It can mix that up with any degree of action, or psychology, or intelligence. The general situation, though, is basically that someone is in a tricky situation and is trying to get out of this. So the important elements of a thriller are fairly simple - that it has an interesting situation that the protagonist is stuck in, and that the protagonist is someone who you care about. And sadly, this film lacks either of these things.

The situation itself is one that has been done a thousand times - by everyone from James Bond to The Bill - our hero's loved one is kidnapped and the kidnapper forces the hero to do various things as the hero tries to escape or turn the tables. There's nothing interesting about that any more. But, if the cast and characters are right, even that can become entertaining - think about Collateral, where the chemistry between Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx keeps you going despite the fact that (like this) most of the film revolves around someone driving around at gun point. Here, however, the film jumps into the action far too quickly, and without any significant development of characters. Added to this, even the usually entertaining Pierce Brosnan somehow lacks any charisma here in the role - the baddie - that would normally be at least entertaining. Unfortunately, with characters that you don't care about, and a plot that has been thoroughly and completely run before, the film doesn't have much hope. There are a couple of twists as the film progresses (the writer *does* have an imagination after all!) but it's too little, too late. You have to sit through an hour of thriller which is about as thrilling as an episode of Emmerdale to get to it.

I would advise anyone to steer clear of this and get something better from the same genre!

Great for a Saturday night in
Review date: 2008-07-25 Rating: 8 out of 10

This is one of those films that makes for perfect viewing on a Saturday night when you're not going out and fancy settling down on the sofa with some popcorn, chocolate and a fun movie. As lots of reviewers have provided detailed and informative film synopses, I shall just say what I thought. The storyline is full enough of intrigue and twists to deflect attention away from the fact that some of the acting isn't exactly Oscar standard, however Brosnan does surprisingly well as a convincing villain and Butler is just as gorgeous in this film as in all his others. It's full of action, mystery and suspense and one of those films that will keep you guessing until the very end. THen the end comes and you're left still guessing! Top notch as a night in film.
