You'll watch it over and over again!

This film is fantastic. I rented it and watched it 5 times before I took it back and then ordered one from Amazon. I'm not in the habit of watching films repeatedly, and neither are my family, but even as my sister watched it for the first time she said "can we watch it again when it's finished"!

Perfect casting for the kid, he's amazing... adorable. The story is entirely music based, and even being completely tone deaf, I loved the whole thing. Buy it, rent it, whatever, just give it at least one watch :-)

Watch - listen - and enjoy!!

"August Rush" is beautiful - the kind of beautiful that will make you laugh and cry, even though it has a foreseeable ending and it has a distinct Oliver Twist-y flair.

"August Rush" is about the 11-year-old Evan, who has lived his entire life as an orphan, hearing music emanating from the world around him. The opening scene, where Evan is standing in a field of wheat, moving in the wind, perfectly encapsules this. Even is sure that his parents are out there and runs away from the orphanage/home. He arrives in New York and is guided by music.

Music plays a crucial role in "August Rush". There is the classical cello for the mother, lead rock guitar and song for the father, the blues harmonica for the Fagan-character Wizard, and the composit sound of the city/environment for the searching Evan. Anybody in the movie has their own sound/music.

For those of you who fear a too-sweet movie, let me say that there is no overly romantic and/or cheasy finale. THAT scene has thankfully been omitted.

Oh yes, I have to mention the cast. This is one of those movie with a great ensemble casts. Robin Williams' eccentric and slightly crazy Wizard does seem a little on the over-played side, but the rest of the cast fill their roles to perfection.

Watch - listen - and enjoy!!

Louise.

Rubbish

Looked promising so we took a chance on it however this proved to be a big mistake! Judging by the other reviews on here I think this is one of those love it or hate it films and we fall into the later catagory. The film is slow moving, totally unrealistic and poorly acted even though the actual cast is a good one. Overall I would say this is one of the worst films we have ever seen!

Who cares about needing to suspend belief in reality? This film is amazing.

True - its a fantasy fairytale, but it is also unbelievably beautiful. There isn't any way to adequately describe it's effect because it acts directly upon your emotions and can veer between darkness and light, sadness and joy, hope and despair, loss and discovery, all within a matter of seconds. But if ever a DVD deserved - no NEEDED - an extra features section showing how the incredible music tracks were conceived and created, then this film is it. That is the only flaw in this otherwise perfect release.

Almost the worst film I have ever sat through

The only person who could enjoy this film would be someone who could completely suspend all belief in reality. The story is so far fetched that it is laughable. It draws from various sources not least of which is Oliver Twist, with Robin Williams in the role of Fagin. I have read some of the reviews which praise the film and I am frankly amazed. I have seen worse films but am struggling to name them !!!!
