AMAZING!
Review date: 2008-10-03 Rating: 10 out of 10

I bought this dvd as a David Tennant fan and was completely blown away. The acting is superb and the storyline is thought provoking and sucks the audience in, me and my friends were sat on the edge of our seats waiting to see how it ended.
I recommend this to anyone, not just Tennant fans!

Not even for Tennant fans
Review date: 2008-10-01 Rating: 2 out of 10

Speaking as one myself, it pains me to think that David Tennant fans might get this DVD imagining it to be any good. It is awful. Only to be watched if you have already got through the wonderful Blackpool, Casanova, complete Doctor Who, Takin Over The Asylum, He Knew He Was Right, Recovery, that Harry Potter film he was in, etc, and basically you are desperate for more DT. And even then I'd suggest watching with the sound switched off.

If you are a fan of tacky, implausible thrillers, you will probably find this OK though.

Best portrayal of a sociopath goes to David Tennant
Review date: 2008-08-21 Rating: 10 out of 10

I had already read the Nicci French novel before seeing the TV dramatisation. The latter does depart from the book particularly with the ending that has been souped up for TV audiences. While perhaps more unbelievable than the more low key climax in the novel, this quibble is compensated for by the brilliant performance of David Tennant as the charming/creepy sociopathic Brendan. I've just purchased the DVD and after a second viewing still find the story chilling.

Not the least bit "Who"
Review date: 2008-05-31 Rating: 10 out of 10

First be warned. There is not the least bit of "Doctor Who" in Tennants performance of the sociopath Brendan Block - which only highlights what a great actor he is. When I watched "Secret Smile" for the first time, I had to leave the room on some scenes(I do not watch too many psycho-thrillers, you know ...). The second time, I could really enjoy Brendan Blocks evil genious, how every word, every move, every glance is used with such perfect precision to destroy the life of his ex-girlfriend. It's just creepy.

By the way: Tennant uses his "native tongue", so I needed some weeks afterwards, until I could enjoy listening to a scottish accent again without shivers going down my spine. ;o)

very creepy
Review date: 2008-05-18 Rating: 10 out of 10

I found this after seeing a clip of possibly the most terrifying (yet strangely attractive) thing David Tennant says in this, you'll know it when you get there.

Brilliantly acted by all, it was gripping and unexpected; you really feel for her as her life begins to fall apart around her. David Tennant was fab as always, very creepy, particularly as he appears as crazy, but also extremely clever and vindictive.

I really enjoyed it, watch it if it sounds like its for you.
