This was the most fantastic piece of television that I've seen in a long time.
Hilariously funny, of course, but where I think Gervais, Merchant & co really excel is in the sense of sadness that comes through. Ashley Jensen, surely the most gifted comedienne to have emerged in recent years, is truly heart-breaking; effortlessly funny, but I was in tears watching her face the possibility that her dreams of becoming a 'proper actress' may never happen.
By far the best thing that Merchant and Gervais have written - the way it bounces between comedy and tragedy is genius. A gem.

I'm incensed. Why has this been released in the United States and not here in the United Kingdom? We pay the BBC licence fee.
Excellent, but different from UK broadcast

I bought this from the US because the UK Region 2 DVD has no release date (probably November in time for Xmas). It is exactly the same as the film shown on the BBC at Xmas, but has a few subtle differences specifically for American audiences - e.g The Jade Goody doll has been replaced in one scene with an American celeb doll. This DVD has no extra features, but at £9.99 is likely to be cheaper than the UK DVD. Of course there are no guarantees that the UK DVD will have any extra features either. If like me you don't want to wait, Buy It. Needless to say its brilliant, cringe worthy, and a fitting finale to a great series.
