Stunning computer-generated special effects are the main selling point of Dragon Wars, a Korean-made fantasy about ancient monsters wreaking havoc in modern Los Angeles. The complex plot, based on legend, pits an evil serpent and its demonic army against a young woman (Amanda Brooks) who is the reincarnation of a young woman imbued with the heaven-sent power to transform the creature into an all-powerful dragon. Jason Behr (The Grudge) is the reporter who discovers that he too is a reincarnated warrior bound to prevent Brooks and her power from falling into the wrong hands. The elaborate premise isn't helped by the script, which delivers absurd dialogue and situations with child-like naivete. Thankfully, the presence of Robert Forster (as another reincarnated hero) and solid actors like Elizabeth Pena, Craig Robinson and Chris Mulkey, help smooth over the frequent moments of unintentional humour. But this won't matte! r much to fantasy fans and (especially) younger viewers, who will tune in for the film's riot of special effects. Director Shim Hyung-rae and his talented team offer scene after scene of exceptional CGI creations, most notably an aerial dogfight between helicopters and winged lizards in the skies above downtown L.A., and a climactic battle which makes good on the title's promise. The DVD includes a making-of featurette which outlines Shim's four-year struggle to complete the project, as well as storyboard galleries and an animatics display. -- Paul Gaita END
I want that 1hr 30mins of my life back
Review date: 2008-09-12 Rating: 2 out of 10
The thinnest plot, and poorest casting I have ever seen took me through an uncomfortable hour and a half (which I want back BTW, I've already destroyed any trace I ever owned the BluRay of this and taken steps never to remember this movie ....look its gone from my memory already).
A made for TV plot with no real suprises, just hijacked scenes from other films....if I must come up with any reason to rent this movie it would be the dragon fight at the end that lasts....oooooh 2 minutes.
BUY THIS DVD ? ...NO ...NO ....NO
Rent it .....if it was raining, it was the last DVD in the store and the cashier begged you to keep his kids in college ?

Great action, bad scriptReview date: 2008-06-02 Rating: 8 out of 10I know the acting is awful and I gave up trying to understand the plot ofter 6 mins. However at 11 mins there's a crazy action sequence that hooked me in. After that you get more exposition then more and more action of the most spectacular variety, so much so that I was almost up out of my seat cheering. It looks great and sounds great and I thoroughly loved it. I'm only knocking off one star for the script and acting because quite honestly the action was so good that I didn't care about the rest one bit. Stunning and hilarioulsy bad by equal measures.Story Line....What Story Line...Oh Gooding Did Somebody Say 'Monster' Wopey Do!Review date: 2008-05-30 Rating: 2 out of 10Yawn, yawn, yawn, predictable, predictable, predictable. At every possible moment a decision is reached where you the viewer could think, whats going to happen now, i'll tell you now, you'll have already conjoured the answer and sure enough you'd be right. At every step of the story line in the film, did it all fall in to place far to easily considering the attack on LA was quite a serious. Hey presto the US army appear with abslutely no warning or 'seriousness around a table' element to increase your anticipation about the whole saga. The film tries to get you to a plato but fails. I purchased the normal DVD, and I'd say be careful as the filming and script also sound & look sub-standard, fuzzy around the edges. I won't go into any details what so ever, it just not worth the effort. The DVD case goes into saying this is a '$75 Million' film and i'm think where, just show me where. As the initial review of this movie state, Whatever you do, do not buy this film.High expectations... too bad.Review date: 2008-05-19 Rating: 2 out of 10This movie seemed just awsome! I cant get enough of pure entertainment-movies. They dont need a telling story, only a foundation of theme, in this case; dragons! Lets start of by saying what this movie DOES have; Effects. The dragons are believable. Thats enough positive review. Story-wise this movie lacks almost everything. Some ancient tell of a dragon that comes to life every 300 years is the basis. Thats it. If you see the trailer, you have seen almost everything there is to see.
Stay clear of this film. Find som other movie instead.
