Ronald Shiner keeps it clean
Review date: 2008-10-31 Rating: 6 out of 10
Made in 1955 this Ronald Shiner vehicle has all the right cast and elements to make it an entertaining farce. It works to a certain extent but Ronald Shiner seems constrained by the script which could have been funnier. James Hayter still a star from his success in The Pickwick Papers is a wonderfully exasperated as the boss. Colin Gordon is funny as the slightly potty inventor and dear old Jean Cadell is funny because she is a battleaxe. Look out for Joan Sims as, would you believe it, Vi Tarbottom and she steals the scene too. A little bit of class and sophistication is added to the proceedings by the cultivated Ursula Howells. Odeon have a good print with clear sound and an informative liner booklet. Well worth a chuckle.
