A lazy effort, but moments of fun
Review date: 2008-04-01 Rating: 4 out of 10

I love LOST the Tv Series, my primary reason for giving this a go. On the surface, I think the graphics and voiceovers are fine. However, this doesn't feel like it is connected to the show in anyway apart from shoehorning in some references here and there. We stay too far away from the action to feel like we're apart of the story of the Island, and not just some random bloke that has never been alluded to in the series before. Considering they managed the same idea with Nikki and Paulo's episode (placing them in the action form series 1 and 2), Elliott's tale remains in the margins of the overall plot.
There are also glaring continuity issues between the game and the series. The series is about hte lives of over 40 passengers on the beach and yet we only see 6 people on the beach at most. Where did the other 30 people go?? You'll also see that some of the setting have been tampered with, and suddenly doors and other objects that you saw in the show have been replaced by something else.
Talking to the other characters seems pointless. They don't give you any new information and give you pointless questions to ask. Anyone who watches the show will know the answers the characters are going to give, so what is the point of interacting with them quite so much??
The lack of real actors from the show is also odd. Only Claire, Sun, Ben, Desmond, Mr Friendly and Patchy appear to be voiced the by the original actors. And for the love of god will these Americans get proper English people to play the British parts, as they rarely convince us that they know what we really sound like! Yes, Mr Guy Who Voices Charlie - I'm looking at you!
It's also very easy, in 90% of the places, and most of the action revolves around following a preset path whilst being chased by the "Black Smoke". Cue endless cut scenes of hiding banyon trees everytime you try to escape it.
Elliott's flashes are predictable and half of them aren't needed. Consdering he is the main character, his storyline is extremely slim.
The game is far too short and not as "open ended" as some previews suggest.
There is no heart in this game - which you would expect to find for a company which has been working on this for almost two years.
Having said that, the video sequences are fun, being able to explore the hatch (the only setting they haven't played with for this game) and the music is the only thing that remains close to the show. None of the "LOST feeling" is really there.
But as it is only £10 on Amazon at the moment, it is much better value for money than the £20 I paid. I do think you should buy it, because it does have fun moments, but is still disappointing when compared to how my hopes for the game heightened.

Lost-It should be

Extremely short, repetative and easy to complete, other than a couple of easy puzzles it basically tells you what to do. An exercise in theft using the name of an excellent tv series. Stay well clear

The true experience

An evaluation of Lost: the video game is somewhat complex.

On one side we have a relatively short game riddled with tedious and repetitive puzzles and somewhat frustrating game play in sections. On the positive side, you are experiencing Lost first hand.

The latter wins in my opinion.

The game starts, a survivor of the Oceanic Flight 815, suffering from memory loss in the middle of the jungle. The game follows a somewhat fragmented story line from series one to three, with your character following his own 'destiny' towards remembering who you really are.

Game play is somewhat limited, and consists of walking the island while talking to the very realistic characters from the Lost series. In turn you must follow the Lost adventure through some challenging action sequences and make use in logic to solve puzzles in order to survive.

The atmosphere created within the game is stunning. The graphics and backgrounds of this game are the true highlight of the game, and you really do feel like a character from the series.

This game is somewhat challenging and frustrating in sections and is not as straight forward as novice gamers might have expected, however the game is very nicely produced and more importantly, incorporates many aspects of the series, which to any Lost fan is the main reason for buying the game. The game has some nice touches, however as a true Lost fan, I too was hoping for more insight into the concluding series of Lost, a point mentioned within other reviews.

This gripping game must be brought by any true Lost fan, however if you are not one for a short, straight forward game play with limited action, then I suggest look elsewhere.

I would also like to suggest that this game has been produced on three platforms. If you are looking to buy, I would suggest making use of the computer based version, on a basis that you shall benefit from visual quality, and reprogrammable controls.

Disappointingly Short
Review date: 2008-03-05 Rating: 6 out of 10

Thats it to be fair. 7 Episodes thats it?

Like the real thing I was left with more questions than answers.

But a game that can be completed in 6 hours can only be described as disappointing.

Stilla good game, scared to hell out of me at times.
