Amazon.co.uk Review

Get yourself a snappy title and a couple of marquee names (however disreputable) and you might just snag your no-budget movie a national release--as Zombie Strippers colorfully proves. The names in question belong to porn star Jenna Jameson and Freddie Krueger himself, Robert Englund, both of whom look quite comfortable in this sleazy milieu. As the title suggests (well, "suggests" might be a mild word), there has been an outbreak of the undead in a strip club, with strippers actually improving their onstage antics after they've become zombies. (Given the number of implants on display, it's a wonder the zombies didn't keel over from silicone poisoning.) Englund is the proprietor of the place, Jameson is a star dancer, and a couple of actresses in the "nice girl" roles don't have to take their tops off, although almost everybody else does. Writer-director Jay Lee fills the movie with political gags and a bunch of philosophy references (Jameson reads Nietzsche, the locale is Sartre, Nebraska), all of which play like a lame attempt to distinguish his movie as something other than a puerile horror-comedy. Only thing is, when you try to disguise the fact that you've made a puerile horror-comedy, it kind of takes the oomph out of both the horror and the comedy. The political jibes are about as feeble as those in Southland Tales, but at least Zombie Strippers is shorter. Shot on video, it looks atrocious, but perhaps that doesn't matter very much. --Robert Horton, Amazon.com

Don't be so serious...
Review date: 2010-07-16 Rating: 10 out of 10

In the not too distant future the government is hard at work in a Nebraskan facility, trying to create a zirus to re-animate corpses, to try to build an army of zombie soldiers. You see George Bush has been just elected as President for the fourth time [his vice president is Arnold Schwarzenegger] so the USA is at war with most of the world, leading to a shortage of soldiers.

But this experiment naturally goes wrong, so it's up to the Z squad to come in and tidy up the mess in the facility. One of the squad members is bitten by a zombie during the clear up, but rather then fess up and wait around for his colleages to kill him, he escapes and hides out at illegal strip club Rhino.

The dying soldier then infects the star stripper Kat (Jenna Jameson) meaning she too becomes a zombie. So club owner Ian (Robert Englund) does what anyone would do in this situation - keeps the club open and if customers should be infected he just locks them in the basement.

The film really gets going as the other strippers slowly get ideas as they see how much money zombified Kat is raking in and the elite Z squad hunt down their missing member...

OK: Who sees a film with Jenna Jameson on the cover with the tag line "They'll swallow your soul, anything else will cost you" and expects an Oscar worthy feature? [You'd be forgiven for expecting a porno]. The acting and gore is all completely over-the-top, the characters are cliches [My favourites being the bitch, the goth, the airhead and the good girl who is only stripping to pay for her sick mother's medical treatment], and when the pace slows down they solve it by having topless women dancing with a strippers pole.

But, hey: This is fun. Tasteless and shameless fun. It's played for laughs, not for horror and it is very good for what it is. The only way to be disappointed here is by taking it as a serious horror film.

Just sit back, pour a drink, grab a takeout menu and pop this into your DVD player.

Sexy, painfully funny, and so bad that it's good!

I took interest in this movie originally to view Jenna Jameson's first non-pornographic feature. I'm not into her porn movies, but I've always like Jenna as a person. So after watching the movie, to no surprise, the movie was low budget, camp, badly acted, cringe-funny and really sexy. I found the intentionally bad dialogue, jokes and comedy value extremely entertaining to watch, I found strip scenes entertaining to watch (and by that I also mean for the comedy value, not for the female nudity) and it was also awesome to see Robert Englund play a main character. The plot is ridiculous, the minor parodies of Resident Evil are also ridiculous, but that's what camp B zombie movies are all about. If you like B horror movies, Jenna Jameson and naked girls, then buy this - it's a good one.

brilliant (4.6/5)

i thought this movie was a riot.it starts out as a satire of society and testament as to how stupid we are as a species.and from there it riffs on pop culture in general and certain movies in particular.and of course adding the new element of stripping zombies is a stroke of genius in my mind.but these aren't your average, run of the mill stripping zombies.there's another element added to the mix here that makes things more interesting and fun.Robert England is also hysterical in his role.it all adds up to one fun, gory, sick, and disgusting ride.i loved it.sure,it's sick and twisted, but i wouldn't have it any other way.for me.Zombie Strippers is a 4.6/5

Tee hee! This is so much better than it ever deserves to be.

On paper this film has no right to be anything other than awful on every count. The plot is ridiculous. The cast is atrocious. The budget isn't exactly huge. But it works. It's brilliant.

The film is set in the near (or now an alternate) future, in which George W Bush has been elected for a third term. As the opening credits roll a voiceover explains that the US military needs to replace its growing casualties after becoming bogged down in the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Alaska and France. (If that doesn't amuse you you will hate this film) Their response has been to develop a virus. The nature of this is explained to a special forces team (who look like '70s communist guerillas in an array of headbands and ill-fitting berets) who have been called in to a secret lab to deal with a zombie infestation. The virus (used in gene therapy to improve soldiers) conveys faster reactions, preternatural strength the ability to heal rapidly. It has the downside of being unstable and degrading each time it is conveyed from one host to another. It survives better in a female host turning her into a superhuman (with zombie tendencies) but turns a man into a slavering zombie. (I was once a biology teacher; the science doesn't work and is absolute nonsense - don't worry about it). Their exciting mission to kill the host of infected scientists is almost entirely successful. It is unsuccessful insofar as one member Birdflu is bitten and fearing that his buddies will execute him to contain the virus escapes.

Naturally, in an increasingly presbyterian world, he finds himself sliding through the window into a secret underground strip club where his fever develops until he feels compelled to bite Jenna Jameson's throat out. Jenna survives and her new virus improved physique makes her the star attraction. Soon the other bitchy strippers are queuing up to get infected. There are some great cartoon characters like the the Eastern European artistic director who says "You girls strip for money. You know nothing. In the motherland, we strip for survival, for bread and borsch.. and vodka." As the manager counts the money and a virginal tryout tries to pluck up the courage to go on stage, the club finds itself managing a severe problem. Men ushered into the private area tend to get bitten and there is now a hoard of zombies in the basement and a special force team tracking them down (using the most unsubtle surveillance known to man).

This film is ridiculous in every respect but the makers know it and are quite at ease with the fact. There are some references to the war on terror but they just set up jokes. It's not exactly a comedy or a spoof though. It reminds me of 'snakes on a plane'. It's a bad film made well. It was never going to win any awards or critical acclaim but as a movie to watch with mates and a few beers - superb.

good for laughs

dont be expecting anything serious here. if you are open minded and enjoy nudity and sexy zombies then you should watch it. there is 1 glimps of jenna jamesons burger. very nice. make sure you have drank between 5 and 7 beers before watching this as you would get bored otherwise, and if your female i wouldnt expect you to like this. purely good for blood boobs and comedy, nothing else!
