Pretty good
Review date: 2008-06-30 Rating: 8 out of 10

I wasn't sure what to expect from this film but in the end I really enjoyed it. It's not without it's flaws of course. The story is played very seriously and the film makers have obviously decided they wanted a believable western in the mould of Unforgiven. This works most of the time, but when there's a shootout, and there are a few, you'll need to take a leap of faith cos the good guys (Crowe and Bale) get shot at millions of times yet come out unscathed, whereas it usually only requires one shot from them to kill six bad guys.
Anyway, I liked the film and the blu-ray picture and sound quality are as good as I've seen. Definitely worth a look.

Erm... so he's...erm...no...hang on...erm.
After reading a few online reviews had hopes for this one but found it all over the place.Terrible confusing script, poor whisper/grumble grumble acting and more cliche's than you could care to shake a false leg at.
Dont bother.Rent The Assassination of Jesse James instead.

a bit slow

The visual and audio quality are very good, so I'm glad I rented it on Blu Ray. I'm even gladder I did not buy it, because it isn't the sort of film I'm going to want to see again.

It is not a bad film, I did enjoy it. It does have some good action bits, but these are infrequent. It also has a lot of dialogue that although very well acted, especially by Mr Bales, does get a bit boring.

This is a film about morality, rather than an action film. The ending does make sense in my opinion (though some reviewers disagree), but it is a bit far fetched.

The film is a little like the beginning of the clint eastwood film unforgiven. Tough, gritty, depressing. It most certainly is not like any of the fistful of dollar films.

Rambling review, I apologise, but hopefully you get some sort of idea about the film, without spoilers.

Great acting, great camera work, feels authentic. A little dull. Worth renting if you like cowboy films, not buying.

Entertaining and convincing

Great story, great attention to detail - the sets, the weapons, the costumes. Great modern western, but slightly limited by the fact it's a western - it's hard to make the genre original when it's been done so many times before.

Weak!!!

Terrible storyline - ending didn't make any sort of sense, seriously disappointed by this one. I gave it 2 stars purely for the cinematography.

Don't bother renting it!
