Amazon.co.uk Review
Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it. Remember Arrested Development? Smartest, funniest show on television. A critics' darling. An Emmy-winner for Best Comedy Series. But no one watched, and it was cancelled. Will history repeat itself with 30 Rock? It's the smartest, funniest show on television. A critics' darling. An Emmy-winner for Best Comedy Series. And it finished its inaugural season in 137th place! Hopefully, people will discover all that they missed with this Season 1 set and 30 Rock will, better late than never, find the audience it so richly deserves. A behind-the-scenes workplace comedy in the grand tradition of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Dick Van Dyke Show, 30 Rock stars comedy geek goddess Tina Fey as Liz Lemmon, who juggles her hapless personal life with her chaotic career as the producer and head writer of an SNL-ish sketch comedy show. She has a new boss, cunning and ruthless GE executive Jack Donaghy (Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award-winner Alec Baldwin), who insists on being her mentor, and a new star, medicated, loose-cannon comedian Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan), who steals the spotlight from the show's flighty star, Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski). Briskly paced and perfectly cast, 30 Rock rewards viewers with brilliant dialogue (when Liz asks Jack why he is dressed in a tuxedo with no formal event to attend, he coolly responds, "It's after six; what am I, a farmer?") and fresh characters you haven't seen on a hundred other sitcoms. Jack McBrayer is the series' scene-stealing breakout star as NBC page Kenneth, a sweet and innocent "rube." The ensemble's seemingly spontaneous byplay invites repeat viewings to catch jokes and sly bits of business you might have missed (in "Tracy Does Conan," listen for the initial confusion over how to pronounce Tracy's less-than-ethical physician, Dr. Spaceman, or, in "The Hair and the Head," watch for the Katie Couric slur on the wall of what is purported to be NBC anchor Brian Williams' trashed office). In a season full of gems (including "Black Tie," featuring Paul Reubens as severely inbred royalty), there are only a couple of comparative clunkers, but the pleasure of this ensemble's company more than compensates. 30 Rock is highly recommended for people like Kenneth who just love television so much. And by the hammer of Thor, watch season 2! --Donald Liebenson

30 Rock - Wow! This show rocks!!!Review date: 2008-07-28 Rating: 10 out of 10I caught a few episodes on tv then it seemed to disappear so it's good to get the whole season on dvd. I tried buying it in my local Borders but their packs were faulty with 2 disc 3's and no disc 2.
Boy was I glad to receive mine through Amazon and find out it had the correct discs.
This show is amazing, I don't know how Tina Fey does all she does but I'm glad she does it. This woman has an amazing brain and a spot on sense of humour that translates well to UK humour.
If you want escapism and a laugh then buy this boxed set.30 Rock, ROCKS!!Review date: 2008-06-23 Rating: 10 out of 10Having designed a feature on this show ages ago for the newspaper I work for, I didnt really give this show a second look. I wasn't overly interested and the fact it had Alec Baldwin in it seemed to put me off. BIG MISTAKE!!! My editor loaned me the Season 1 boxset and I could not stop watching!!! This show is HILARIOUS. I am addicted to it. I used to watch loads of TV but due to work I don't get much time so I tend to miss out on the odd good show.. This being one of them. The cast is fantastic and the writing is sharp, witty, laugh out loud. One of the best actors in the show to me is Rachel Dratch. She has no fixed character. She plays several different people throughout the show, all of which are weird and/or crazy. The best one she played was the Russian Prostitute but you have to watch it to see.. This is not a show to be missed. It is crazy how this show isn't on at a better time on a better channel. Thats the problem over here though. If it's not a soap or reality program it doesn't get a good time slotPure GeniusReview date: 2008-05-25 Rating: 10 out of 10This show is just fantastic. The best comedy I have seen since Green Wing (although nothing like Green Wing so if that wasn't your thing don't let thast put you off!)
It is awesome. Pure genius. Fantastic characters, brilliant humour, great scripts - I can't praise it enough. In my mind there are no flaws. The characters are brilliant cliches taken to their comedy extremes, it references other shows and films in an intentionally crude and obvuious way, which is just the icing on the cake, and refuses to take itself seriously at every turn.
Current, satirical, ironic, topical, laugh out loud comedy at its finest.U.S. Comedy at its very bestReview date: 2008-05-01 Rating: 10 out of 10So glad I watched 30 Rock when it was on TV, but most people seem to have missed it and if you did you've missed out on one of the funniest U.S. imports since Frasier. Set in New York in NBC building at 30 Rockefeller Plaza (hence the odd title) it follows the exploits of Liz Lemon an every women TV Exec working on a Saturday Night Live style comedy show called the Girlie Show. Into Liz's life comes Alex Baldwin as her new boss and he gives I think the funniest comedy performance since the immortal last line of Some Like It Hot. Who knew Alex Baldwin was such a comedy God, his characterisation here is brilliant. The supporting cast are all perfect, all delivering there own uniquely funny performances, there's not a duff line or performance in the whole series. These are all fresh, funny, unique characters. If you're a woman and you work you cannot fail to relate to Liz's trials, in the same way we all connected with Sex & The City, you'll get the same connection with Liz, but she's the real you, not the glamorised Carrie Bradshaw version.
30 Rock is funny, clever, fresh, relatable and must see TV, so if you missed it treat yourself to the DVD and laugh yourself silly.
