Amazon.co.uk Review

After cooking up a winning formula for the first season, this karmic comedy could afford to shake things up. In Earl's equally successful second, there's an episode incorporating clay animation ("Robbed a Stoner Blind" with Christian Slater), an homage to Cops ("Our 'Cops' Is On!" with Kathy Kinney), a two-parter set in Latin America ("South of the Border" with John Leguizamo), and a Tarantino-style whodunnit with narration split between Earl, Randy, Joy, and Crab Man ("Buried Treasure").

As before, Earl (Jason Lee), in cahoots with brother Randy (Ethan Suplee), continues in his quest to become "a better person." He starts by turning to Camden County strip club owner Richard Chubby (Burt Reynolds) to get ex-wife Joy out of a jam involving stolen merchandise ("Jump for Joy"). Joy's struggle to evade prison will last all year, during which Earl falls for her "hot professional" lawyer (Marlee Matlin). Other highlights include "Sticks & Stones," in which Earl gives a bearded lady (Judy Greer) back her confidence, and "Larceny of a Kitty Cat," in which the allergic Randy dates a feline fancier (Amy Sedaris). When that comes to an end, he finally works up the nerve to tell motel maid Catalina (Nadine Velazquez) how he really feels about her ("Foreign Exchange Student').

From the start, Earl attracted a colourful array of talent. That trend continues with Roseanne Barr as a nun ("Made a Lady Think I Was God") and John Waters as a funeral director ("Kept a Guy Locked in a Truck"). Emmy nominees Giovanni Ribisi and Beau Bridges also return for a few episodes, along with other first-season favourites, like Patty, the Daytime Hooker (Dale Dickey). As with the previous set, there's a bushel of extras, including deleted scenes, commentary, and a blooper reel. --Kathleen C. Fennessy, Amazon.com

Synopsis

The enormously popular and critically acclaimed sitcom MY NAME IS EARL stars Jason Lee as Earl, a reformed criminal who sees the light when he loses a winning lottery ticket after getting hit by a car. He decides his bad luck can be chalked up to bad karma, and sets about making amends with everyone he has ever wronged. Ethan Suplee (MALLRATS) plays Earl's slow but good-hearted brother and sidekick, Randy, and Jaime Pressly (NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE) plays Earl's ex-wife, Joy. Playing out like a small-screen version of a Coen brothers film, MY NAME IS EARL is funny, creative, clever, and full of heart. This collection presents the show's second series in its entirety.

wow season two and still its humour has not gone down hill this season is full of great episodes, the best episodes for me will have to be [very bad things] [our cops is on] [kept a guy locked in a truck] [jump for joy] [harassed a reporter] [g.e.d] [two balls.two strikes] [south of the border] yes all the episodes are good but those 8 are my favourite.I cant wait for season 3 i want to see how earl gets out of prison, cos how can earl do the things on his list if he's in prison. This season is great so if you have not got it buy it.

Havent seen 1st series so will be ordering that. In the meantime I will just have to watch this series again. Loved the Cops episode. You MUST buy this!!!

This is if possible better than the first series, there are alot of belly laugh moments in this series if you have not seen the first series get it and then get this. As others have already said this series explains more about Earls life the one with Ralph is by far the best.

For me this is one of those series's that you have to own it's like you have to own the back to the future trilogy, trust me if you like comedy or at the very least are able to laugh you will love this show.

This show gets better and better...

If you have seen the first series of My Name is Earl then you will know how funny it can be, however this season gets even funnier and unlike the first season, the second does not focus fully on the list, but does focus on other matters and we begin to learn more about Earl, Darnell and especially Randy. Episodes to look out for are: Van Hickey (Includes Raplh), Born a Gamblin Man and The Trial.
Not to spolt things too much but ... Surprising ending.

What goes, comes around....

I can only agree with the previous reviewer. As this series is being shown on Channel 4 and is already available as a DVD in the USA it seems, to say the least, eccentric that I too am am unable to buy this as a Christmas present for folks that I care about (including me!)

In the meantime I guess all that remains for me to do is number 97 on my list "Always fell asleep during the kids Christmas afternoon TV"
