Really boring presentation - after a few minutes you just want it to end. Wouldn't be worth renting and certainly not buying.

NOTHING LIKE THE TV QUIZ
Review date: 2008-01-10 Rating: 2 out of 10

HAVING PLAYED THIS GAME IN SEVERAL OTHER FORMATS I.E. BOARD GAME AND GAME CONSOLE VERSIONS I WAS PLEASED WHEN I DISCOVERED THEY'D BROUGHT IT OUT ON DVD. HOWEVER I WAS MOST DISSAPOINTED WHEN I RECEIVED THE DVD GAME. ON THE OTHER VERSIONS IT IS JUST LIKE YOU SEE ON TV I.E. THERE ARE MANY OTHER CONTESTANTS, REAL AND VIRTUAL, WHO HAVE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ALONG WITH YOURSELF. EVEN IF THERE ARE ONLY 3 OF YOU PLAYING THE VIRTUAL PLAYERS COVER THE OTHER VACANT PLACES WHICH MAKES THE GAME LAST LONGER AND MORE INTERESTING. YOU HAVE TO PICK OUT THE WEAKEST LINK AMOUNGST ALL OF YOU, REAL AND VIRTUAL, AND BANK AT THE APPROPRIATE TIME ETC WHICH IS GREAT FUN. ON THE DVD VERSION THERE IS ONE MAJOR AND CRUTIAL FLAW. THERE IS NO OPTION AT ALL TO SELECT VIRTUAL/COMPUTER PLAYERS. THEREFORE IF THERE ARE ONLY A FEW OF YOU PLAYING IT'S RUBBISH. I.E. IF ONLY 2 OF YOU PLAY YOU DO 1 ROUND AND AS YOU DONT HAVE ANY OTHER VIRTUAL PLAYERS TO BANK AND VOTE OFF AFTER THIS 1 ROUND YOU GO STRAIGHT TO THE FINAL ROUND I.E. THE 5 QUESTIONS AT THE END. AS A RESULT THE BANKED MONEY AT THE END IS ABOUT £200 AND THE WHOLE GAME ONLY LASTS 3 MINUTES AND YOU HAVENT EVEN VOTED ANYONE OFF. POINTLESS! GAME HAS NO SIMILARITIES WITH THE REAL TV QUIZ EITHER I.E JUST SHOWS TYPED QUESTIONS ON A SCREEN I.E. NO PEOPLE STANDING BEHIND PILLARS WITH VOTING BOARDS. WONT BE PLAYING IT AGAIN. NOT IMPRESSED.

Great group game

If you're a fan of DVD games then you'll know that most are based on 1-player quizzes and then adapted for multiplayer functions. Sometimes it works, others it doesn't. The great thing about The Weakest Link is that it is already a perfect multiplayer game and this greatly executed version makes it perfect for group gatherings and small parties.

The game interface is simple and effective, there is plenty of time to bank the money and both the weakest link and head-to-head features work well within the DVD game. The gameplay is quite smooth and it doesn't take too long to go from one scene to another.

A couple of small snags to mention: Since this is naturally a multiplayer game, the single player function seems to serve as a sort of practice feature and isn't very interesting. Also, when I first played the game on my main home entertainment dvd player, it didn't work - the question scenes would make it freeze up. When I tried another dvd player, it worked perfectly. Overall, this is a great game and good fun in larger groups, though not nearly as much when alone.
