Drag-on
Review date: 2008-06-22 Rating: 10 out of 10
Ok, if you know what a 55 Chevy looks like and if you know what a 1970 GTO looks like and the colour Orbit Orange means anything to you you will like this film. Yes it is a bit slow but enjoy it for what it is, a home brew 55 drag racer takes on a piece of Detroit Muscle. The home brew crew need to do a bit of street and strip racing to survive on the journey - are they drag racing nomads at the start of the 70's. The GTO represents the middle age desk jocky who isn't satisfied with his lot and wants somthing else - but probably isn't sure what. As a Middle aged Mondeo driving desk jocky who always wanted to be the driver of the 55 this sometimes slow film has been one of my faves for the last 20 years.

Dirty Mary, Crazy LarryReview date: 2008-05-29 Rating: 2 out of 10In this 1971 low-budget B-movie there is little or no action. On top of that the acting is monosyllabic and "underplayed" meaning the actors (making their acting debuts, musicians Dennis Wilson and James Taylor) have no acting ability what so ever. This was their first (and last) venture into motion picture territory. Both musicians underplay their parts; erm sorry, I take that back, they cannot act.
Also, there is no real story and the ending is strange and unsatisfying yet very much welcome in this viewers opinion. Gosh, I've seen some crap movies over the years but "Two-Lane BlackTop" takes the biscuit. Not even the great Warren Oats can't bring any of his usual brilliance to this turkey of a movie. Oats struggled with his part in the meandering "Bring me the Head Of Alfredo Garcia". Here, in Two-Lane Black Top he is completely lost at sea. The fact that both of these movies were unavailable for over 30 years (res ipsa loquitor) is an indication that they are rubbish and that releasing them on dvd would be a bad financial risk for the production studios.
Well here they are folks on dvd with some extras.
Buy them, watch them, and experience disappointment and boredom.

PS. If you are looking for an entertaining low budget road movie buy Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry.A classic road movieReview date: 2004-01-19 Rating: 10 out of 10This is a great movie! First of all it stars Singer Songwriter James Taylor an Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson in their first and only acting roles. They are two drifters who race their Ol' 55 Chevy for money. Warren Oates stars and steals the show as the driver of a Pontiac GTO who races them across the backroads of america for "Pinks"(car docs) picking up various weirdos on the way. They pick up a (Laurie) "Bird" who joins them for a ride. You never really know what's going on or what might happen next and the film does have an abrupt ending. This can all be explained in the director voice over option. It's a shame this appears to be in short supply. Maybe get it from amazon.com. It's a classic buy it! IMPORTANT I can only play this on my PC dvd player and not on my multi-region DVD player for some reason(maybe my dvd player isn't too hot)
