Flawed but still cool cult classic.

First saw this when it featured on Alex Cox's peerless "Moviedrome" showcase on BBC2... the same place I saw countless excellent movies like "Repo Man" "They Live!" "Sid and Nancy" "Assault on Precinct 13" "Jabberwocky" and a whole bunch of others. All of them "cult" films from the wrong side of the tracks - beautiful, flawed monsters with low budgets and genre intentions.
This captures an American subculture - The Rennaissance Fayre - also captured in Michael Crichton's "Westworld." But more than that it is a commentary on the nature of "selling out" - then besetting the remnants of the counter culture, and the need to live authentically. It is an existentialist biker movie about an ertsatz Camelot with a genuine core - wonderfully performed by Ed Harris. See also "Walker".
