Amazon.co.uk Review

The sixth entry in the long-running American Pie franchise anchors its story in the tried-and-true rivalry between nerds and jocks while serving up the non-stop barrage of raunchy gags for which the series has earned its notoriety. The twist in Beta House is that the nerds are actually the heels of the picture, while the heroes (as it were) are hormonally super-charged Erik Stifler (John White) and his pals, who pledge at their college's most chaotic frat during their freshman year. That the fraternity, Beta House, is run by Erik's cousin Dwight (Steve Talley) only works in their favour, but trouble rears its head in the form of the Geek House, a rival frat made up of socially awkward boys with money to burn due to their technological superiority. The apex of their clash is the Greek Olympics (inexplicably presided over by American Pie regular Eugene Levy), which descends into a frenzy of scatological sight gags (one bit, inspired by the Russian Roulette scene in The Deer Hunter, is jaw-droppingly gross). The sweetness that tempered the sex jokes in the original American Pie is completely absent from this entry; that, however, may not be a bad thing for some viewers. The DVD includes a considerable amount of deleted material, including whole story lines removed from the final product; commentary by and interviews with the cast and crew, outtakes, an in-character interview with Levy, and a ridiculous "Yule Log" featurette (a smutty play on the old Video Yule Log) round out the extras. --Paul Gaita

American Disaster

Eric Stiffler's ready to go to college, and is going to stay on campus. When he sees how cool Beta is, he wants to join them. What he doesn't realise is he's going to be put through a set of tasks to become a Beta Brother, oh and he has to survive the Olympian Games, to save his fraternity.

This is the worst of the American Pie series, I really think they should have stopped when the real Stiffler stopped, because this isn't that funny. Anyone considering letting an under 18 watch this might think again, it's full of nudity and sexual activity. It tries too hard to be pornographic - yet at the last minute bails out, I think they should have thought about that a bit more before committing this to cellulite.

The DVD was poor too, no extras or commentaries - this is becoming commonplace, and it's rather insulting in my opinion.

Bring back Sean Williams Scott and Jason Biggs!

I'm gonna make this short and sweet.
This film takes the gross comedy we all associate with the american pie series, to a whole new level. From the start you can foresee things are going to happen but still can't believe they would put it in a film. My general opinion of the film is that it is a good laugh. However, this is not really a teen movie. Its more like softcore porn!

Beta House

OK so the American Pie spin off series does not have the whit, humour and originality of the 3 major films, but dont be fooled, they are still full of numerous hilarious moments

Band Camp disappointed, Naked Mile was brilliant and Beta House is far behind. Like with the main 3 films the characters have built up over the series and you actually know them by this film. Packed full of some immensly funny and the obligitory sex and nakedness, Beta House is the perfect film to sit at home with your mates have a few drinks and laugh the whole way through. Like all in the 6 part series young and the older will all find something that entertains!

The only draw back is the film can get slightly predictable, but if you take it for what it is, an hour and a half of laughs, funny stunts and an excuse to make a damn enjoyable film you will love watching this!!

(one end note - do parties like this really exist, i have been to a few university parties but havent quite found some like this!)

Quite good!

I love the American Pie films, and the first 3 were great, the 4th not so good and the 5th was good, so when I saw an advert for this on TV, I tohught I better check it out and I was quite suprised. It is definitley better than the 4th film and also the 5th film. I still don't think it comes close to the first 3 films, but there is a lot to laugh at within this new film. Some great scenes and phrases and there is alot more nudity in here. A good storyline and good acting makes this one to watch!

A bit disappointing but good enough

American Pie Presents: Beta House, is the latest but sadly not the greatest release in the American Pie saga. Based at the University of Michigan the film follows the notorious Beta House fraternity, ruled over by the celebrated and legendary Dwight Stifler, they are known far and wide for their wild parties and extreme behaviour. Erik Stifler is now a freshman at the university and he swears an oath to the Beta House fraternity. However tension and rivalry between Beta House and GEK (Geek) house results in the resurrection of "The Greek Games" a notorious university ritual that was banned decades ago. What follows is an extreme showdown between the two houses with literally everything at stake.

Despite being packed with the usual outrageously side splittingly funny situations that made the American Pie films great, I feel that Beta House is a bit of a letdown considering the sheer brilliance of the previous films. My main problem was with the plot, two groups of people in a college or university, fighting it out in a competition. It's been done plenty of times in the past and Beta House offers nothing original. If you've seen Revenge Of The Nerds, Animal House and even Porky's you will notice the strong similarities. Beta House is a little predictable and you kind of know how it's going to end. Also unlike the previous American Pie films, the characters don't seem to be as `likeable' or real. In the past you would fall in love with characters, grow to care about them, and feel there triumphs and defeats. I guess this is because we're giving so many new characters with each film and it's hard to `get to know them.' Naturally Eugene Levy (Jim's dad) is still there and probably still will be for American Pie 10, but personally I miss the REAL Stifler (Seann William Scott) who was nothing less than a god.

I don't know maybe I'm looking for too much or the wrong things in Beta House, or maybe I'm just stuck in the past. So anyway, regardless of my personal disappointment with Beta House, it is a good enough film that will entertain you and won't disappoint any American Pie fan. My generally opinion of the American Pie films remains unchanged and I eagerly await the next release.
