Amazon.co.uk Review

It’s fair to say that when The Young Ones first blasted onto television screens, there’d never been anything quite like it. Yet the manic adventures of Rik, Neil, Vyvyan and Mike didn’t take long to gain an audience, and over 25 years later, the programme still enjoys a well-deserved cult-following.

Both series of The Young Ones are grouped together in this special DVD set, and there’s plenty to enjoy. In among the violence, the anarchic comedy, and the wonderful childishness of it all, are many, many belly laughs. How about when The Young Ones represented Scumbag College on University Challenge, for instance? Or Alexei Sayle’s Balowski family? Or the occasional break so a band could be worked in to play a song?

The influence of The Young Ones has been notable since it was first broadcast, not least in the spawning of its sequel-of-sorts, Bottom. Yet the two series here prove to be far more than an opportunity to see where a particular strand of comedy really began to gather pace. Instead, they still provide many bellies full of laughs, and it’s arguable that, in spite of the imitators it spawned, nothing has come close to The Young Ones since. And this DVD collection more than proves the point. --Jon Foster

Fully uncut at last - yipee
Review date: 2007-12-11 Rating: 10 out of 10

Like most other Young Ones fans who grew up in the early 80's, this has been one of my most eagerly awaited DVD's ever.
Presented over 3 discs, we have series 1 and 2 on the first two disc's whilst the third disc contains a couple documentaries which are interesting but could have been so much better had all the cast and Ben Elton taken part.Still its not a great problem as its the programs that we are interested in more than the extras. Also Demolition' and 'Summer Holiday' contain a full audio commentary by Paul Jackson.
They are presented FULLY UNCUT and that includes the episode Boring which has several what we would now call racist terms spoken by a policeman (abit to a white person) which almost never gets shown on TV.
All the music interludes are included too which again were missing from previous releases.
All in all this is a superb box set which should not be missed.

Get on with it Rik ya big poof!

I never review products, but this is possibly the most anticipated DVD set of my life and i just felt i had to comment..

Quite simply this is not the dream box set that us Young ones fans may have dreamt of, instead its filled with a disc of slightly interesting (no pun) documentaries about the scene at the time, but nothing like the imagined (and im sure i even read it happened!) reuniting of the young ones to reminiss give some detail to cult things etc.. Rik and Ade are absent and its such a shame.. But like everything Rik seems to be involved with there is a sense of mystery to its contents and release (delayed for years!) you dont know why this wasnt better, but your always going to be longing for more..just like Rik material and him gracing our screens and stages.

for the die hard fans like me who know every line you will find a few seconds of material not contained on the older DVD releases (hence my title) , and quite simply because this IS the greatest TV show ever, i give it 5 stars.. its just a shame Rik and Ade couldnt make an appearance....the selfish b*$^**&s!!! :)

So, where was Rik, Ade Ben and Chris?

It was a few months back when I saw on a popular website that a ton of outakes of Young Ones would be put onto this upcoming DVD. And as a huge fan I thought excellent. Yesterday (the release date) I bought the DVD with the happy knowledge that I would have in my possession the greatest Young Ones DVD ever....
During the making of the Young Ones Paul Jackson, Geoff Posner, Ed Bye, Alexi Sayle, Lise Mayer, Nigel Planer, Andy De La Tour and Mark Arden recounted many stories about the show - but where the heck was Rik Mayall Ade Edmondson Ben Elton or Chris Ryan? Or were there any behind the scenes shots of the set that could have been included? What about the outtakes? There was none of this which would have made such a difference to this DVD.
Yes, fans of the show know how the Comedy Store showcased the alternative comics of the late seventies early eighties and how this came to be the fuel for the Young Ones.

I've rated this 4 because there was no Rik Mayall or Ben Elton which in view has strongly let the side down.

But never the less the extras aside this is a brilliant show long live the young adults.
