Not seen many documentries covering such a good detail fo history.
But over all a interseting documentry. Full of information, The Buddha episode is covered very beautifully.
But it oftens contradicts its own words,
1) In first 15 min, the acient clan of Brahmins are reciting the hymns in Sanskrit in South India and then the Brahmins from Aryan race are reciting the Sanskrit hymns in Varansi and also impashis of Aryan Invasion theory.
2) Aryans came from central Asia around 1700 BC and they fought battles in Northern planes of India, The example given was Mahabharta, then after a minute the Mahabharata age was backdated to 3200 BC.

A Story Worth WatchingReview date: 2008-08-07 Rating: 8 out of 10The Story of India is an informative and visually beautiful document from one of the UK's most popular historians. Comprised of six one-hour chapters, it is not the whole story of India, nor is it perhaps the best story of India. But anyone coming to this series wanting to learn something about the world's most ancient culture will find many treasures here.
Michael Wood attempts to cover the major events and trends of Indian history beginning with the migration of Africans into India 40,000 years ago, and ending with Independence in 1947. He impresses as someone deeply knowledgeable and passionate about his subject, and erudite in explaining it. Unfortunately the story often unwinds as Wood chases down bits of arcania of interest only to amateur historians and archaeologists, and on occasion the production wanders far afield for what Wood and his producer may have supposed might be attractive footage, such as the presenter riding in a tank in Iraq.
Some of the most interesting moments of the series are in the bonus material, unscripted footage of interactions between the camera crew and Indians that give an immediate sense of life on the subcontinent. It's too bad more such scenes could not have been included, and a lot of the historical trivia left out.
#Outstanding piece of workReview date: 2008-07-30 Rating: 10 out of 10Michael Woods 'creation' of this series is a fastastic combination of a journalist and a thinker. The topics that cover this series, the chronological continuity, the cinematography, the eye for detial are all simply brilliant. The unfathomable passion this man has for India is evident through out-the way he mingles with people of such contrasting cultures, his quest for the truth, his search for the greatness of this country its history and its people and his unending quest to communicate this to his audience is simply brilliant!! Anyone looking for evidence for the greatest civilisation on earth needs must watch this series. It redefines the contemporary hollow definition of a 'superpower'. An absolute must watchExcellent documentary on IndiaReview date: 2008-05-07 Rating: 10 out of 10While it's nearly impossible to cover India in a documentary,Michael Wood has done an excellent job. He's so full of passion as he explains all things Indian.
I'm both proud and humbled from the information I've learned through this documentary.I'll be getting my brother a copy as well.
Even my Chinese colleagues have a better understanding on all things Indian now.
Anyone going to India should go with an open mind but it helps if you could watch this.
Cheers. An Outstanding ResultReview date: 2008-04-29 Rating: 10 out of 10In a series of six episodes, Michael Wood has achieved an excellent, tightly bound narative that takes the viewer from the earliest days of the Indian sub-continent to India today. Without bias but with great insight, he presents and weaves together the different layers of Indian history, peoples, religions and cultures. He does this with great care and attention to fact. This is a highly intelligent series that will allow someone who with both little or great knowledge of India to walk way with a full and meaningful appreciation of the people of this land. As a businessman traveling in and out of India on a regular basis, it illuminated the country for me. Highly colourful with a captivating storey line. This is a must for anyone interested in India. It's certainly hugely better than the other series currently available (BBC's Ganges, for example) which are lovely travalogues but no more. This will entertain you, inform you, and leave you wanting to know more.
