Amazon.co.uk Review

Offering a real improvement on its predecessor and successfully introducing one of the world of comics’ most popular characters in the process, Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer easily warrants some attention on DVD to go with its impressive box office take.

Picking up where the surprisingly tepid original left off, Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer finds the Marvel Comics Universe’s first family dealing with the celebrity that their powers have brought them, to the point where even a simple wedding can’t take place without interruption.

The film then takes a little while to re-establish its characters and re-introduce some of the issues that underpin them. But it’s not too long before the Silver Surfer arrives, and things really get into gear. For make no mistake: it’s the Surfer who ignites the film and provides some of the very best moments of Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer. Backed up by some superb special effects work, he’s a far more interesting draw that the returning Julian McMahon as Dr Doom.

While there are, inevitably, various problems that each of the characters in Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer must face, the film never opts to go knee-deep into them. Instead, it chooses a light, breezy tone, that’s suited well to family viewing yet not without some genuine blockbuster moments.

It’s no classic, but Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer is most certainly fun. And it’s equally certain that this isn’t the last we’ve seen of this quintet of heroes... --Jon Foster

Forget the negative reviews..this is WAY WAY better than FF 1 Ok this isnt a perfect film by a long shot, but the story,fx and action sequences are far superior to the dull FF 1. Every superhero film that comes out people always expect them to be dark and broody..WHY? why do they all have to be batman begins etc. This is lightweight suff for sure but the FF comics always were anyway. This a fun film but julian mcmahons dr doom continues to be awful..that role was woefully miscast.

Pic on this blu ray as well as sound are generally excellent..i watched this on my 40" 1080p tv and was delighted.

If you were put off by FF 1 then give this a chance coz its way better.

A Great Sequel
Review date: 2008-04-05 Rating: 10 out of 10

The Story: Two years have gone by since the team first got together and everything seems to be going swimmingly, Dr. Doom is gone and Susan Storm & Reed Richards are getting married, however things aren't as they seem. A mysterious being is being tracked showing up in different positions across the globe leaving holes in the ground over 200 meters deep. This being is the legendary Silver Surfer and he is preparing Planet Earth to be devoured by the mysterious astrological entity known as Galactus a being that must eat planets to survive.

The Review: Like a lot of people I felt the first movie was very good and highly under-appreciated so I was delighted when I first heard of a sequel. The entire cast are back in this movie and we even get to see THE Dr. Doom return to get revenge against the 4. Special effects wise this film is top notch and to be filmed in the year and a half is spectacular for a film on this scale. Jessica Alba brings her usual sexiness to the mix, and well so does Chris Evans. Michael Chiklis does his thing as "The Thing" and Ioan Gruffud returns to reprise his role as Mr. Fantastic. The story is very basic in this one as it was in the first, the team simply have to battle the silver surfer in order to prevent global disaster while trying to deal with the relationship problems of Sue Storm & Reed Richards. It's a very fun and exciting film while being lighthearted at the same time. Simply this film is a family popcorn film which can be shared by comic book geeks and casual movie go'ers alike.

Awful waste of film
Review date: 2008-01-10 Rating: 2 out of 10

You know i was just browsing through and i saw the amazon page for this.
I wont justify the following statements because frankly i can't be bothered, i just want to vent my feelings on this film.
This is undoubtably one of the WORST films to ever see the light of day.
I liked the first FF but this is just beyond watchable.

The first 35mins are totally slow, when it does speed up you think , why did it bother?
Pointless, pointless film.

Region Encoded!
Review date: 2007-10-15 Rating: 2 out of 10

Be warned - this title is region encoded although it doesn't say so in the description. All the Blu-Ray discs I have bought up to now have been region free (and as far as I am aware all HD-DVD titles are) so I wasn't expecting this.

Mine's on it's way back as my PS3 wouldn't play it.

Another bad title
Review date: 2007-10-15 Rating: 2 out of 10

this has to be one of the worst films ever, probably on a par with ghost rider, i wouldn't even give this to my stepmother for a Xmas present and make her watch it on Christmas day just to ruin the holidays in fear of upsetting the potted plant on the windowsill.
