Manufacturing Dissent is a well-balanced documentary that covers Michael Moore's rise to fame and examines in some detail the dubious techniques he uses when producing his "documentaries".
Unlike some other critical views of Moore, this is not a right-wing hatchet job, it actually started life as a sympathetic view. Following Moore on his 2004 "slacker" tour of the USA, the Canadian filmakers try and fail to get an interview. The tour is interspaced with interviews with many friends and co-workers from Moore's past, both friendly and less sympathetic.
Whether you agree with Michael Moore's views or not, you should watch Manufacturing Dissent. If you don't like Moore it will give you plenty of ammunition; if you like him it will pose some difficult questions.
