Amazon.co.uk Review

The case for the Blu-ray high definition format is considerably, and immediately, strengthened by the appearance of one of cinema's most lucrative franchises of recent times. Each of the Spider-man films have amassed extraordinary sums of money, and they're gathered here together in this glorious high-definition set. Ironically for a trilogy, it's the second film that's the strongest, although let's not jump ahead.

The first Spider-man, for instance, introduces us to Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire), and covers the genesis of the infamous superhero. Set against Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, it's a deft, impressive and entertaining blockbuster, albeit one that takes a little longer than you'd like to get motoring.

Spider-man 2 is the business, though. This is the one with Alfred Molina's stunning Doctor Octopus, although he has to share the screen with the title character contending with his dual life, and the effect on his relationship with Mary-Jane (Kirsten Dunst). It could have gone wrong, but it's so tightly put together that it's one of the very best blockbusters of recent times.

Spider-man 3, inevitably, can't quite match the standard set, but you can't fault it for ambitious. Mixing in Topher Grace as Venom, Thomas Haden Church as Sandman and James Franco as the new Green Goblin, it's a lot to fit into one film, and that's what bogs things down. However, when it does hit its stride, Spider-man 3 is a rip-roaring ride in its own right.

Exclusive to the Blu-ray format in high definition, this is undoubtedly the cinematic purist's best way to enjoy the Spider-man films at home. And backed up by some incisive extra features, this is a boxset that not only demos the strengths of high definition home entertainment, it's also got three highly entertaining films at the core of it. --Jon Foster

Spiderman Trilogy with cure
Review date: 2008-05-10 Rating: 8 out of 10

I recently bought the Spiderman Trilogy on Blu Ray and agree with the other peoples comments. I found Spiderman 2 would not read/play on my PS3. Sony should have supplied instructions on how to fix this problem however, I found a solution on my own. I left the disc in the PS3 and rebooted the PS3 with the disc inside then left it a few minutes and then turned it back on again and this corrected the problem and the movie played okay. This is a very good boxset and I would recommend it to anyone the HD and Sound are great and if you follow my instruction you will get your movie to work.

Faulty release as far as the PS3 is concerned.

A great trilogy but unfortunately Sony have released a faulty boxset and the second movie will NOT work in many PS3's. This is a WELL known issue based upon the number of posts on various forums and you would think Sony would do something about this with a disk replacement program but apparently not. Very dissapointing and a pity that Sony don't have the decency to treat their customers with a little bit more respect instead of simply ignoring a quality issue which has been on-going for many months.

Spider-Man Trilogy [Blu-ray]
Review date: 2008-02-09 Rating: 10 out of 10

Absolutely Amazing (pun intended!). I was looking to buy just Spider-Man 3 on blu ray but then I came across this boxset for only £8 extra with the first 2 films also (this is the only set yu can get them in at the mo as far as i know). The sound is hugely improved on the first two films along with the third and the picture on each is crystal clear and amazingly high qaulity. An example would be Spidey swinging through the city-you are trult immersed in these scenes as the city backdrop feels alive as Spider_man himself. The visual effect this has on characters like Venom, The Green Goblin and especially Sandman are all greatly improved. The only downside is the lack of extras but this is made up for with some genuinely interesting making ofs on Spider-Man 3. This boxset is a must have for any MArvel fan or action film fan and is essential if you own an HD TV with either a blu ray player of the magnificent PS3. This is a MUST HAVE.

The first film was ok, number 2 was the best in the trilogy. This third film was slow and was a poor story. I belive they were just cashing in on the franchise. The special effects were the best thing in the film, very well done.

At least with the bluray you get to see all the effects in the finest detail.
