I was looking forward to this being on the TV so much, as at the time I was trying to pass my driving test. As a big David Tennant fan I knew it would be good. I loved it, it was such a feel good show. Everyone wants a driving instructor like Chris - mine was actually like him! It had the wonderful Con O'Neill in it as well which just made the show even better. I passed my test 4th time not long after watching this. Definitely a must have!

My husband and I had heard about "Learners" and are big fans of Dr Who but hadn't planned to watch this. We caught the beginning by accident and ended up abandoning plans to watch a dvd as it was so good.

Wonderfully written characters who are quirky and real, a lovely story and something we will definitely watch again. My only complaint is that it didn't last longer!

I'd definitely watch anything else Jessica Hynes writes in future.

Fun, no brainer.

As someone trying to get through my test, I was looking forward to this as a bit of light entertainment. Bev has failed her test eight times and is hoping that her new instructor (David Tennant) can help her pass.

It started out well. Bev was likeable and her driving made for some real comedy moments. However, I did feel that the scriptwriter couldn't quite decide if it was a comedy or a drama. At times, there were some genuinely touching moments, but on the whole, this is really only an average programme. There wasn't really enough of David Tennant's character and far too much of the Buddest driving school owner, who started out being horrible and then rapidly had a personality transplant.

I feel that this was a good effort, but there was something missing. Certainly enjoyable, but instantly forgettable.

Learners - a gentle comedy drama
Review date: 2007-10-04 Rating: 10 out of 10

We were lucky enough to go to the premiere of Learners at BAFTA in London on 3rd October.
Written by, as well as starring, Jessica Hynes, Learners has the feel of a fictional - and much funnier - version of 'Driving School'. Bev (Jessica Hynes) having failed 8 driving tests with her partner's help (Shaun Dingwall) and desperate to pass, turns to a professional instructor Chris (David Tennant)for help. Chris' endless patience seems to result in him being surrounded by all the driving school's no-hopers (a wonderful set of characters!) none of which he will give up on. The result is a gentle comedy drama that is suitable for the whole family but no less enjoyable for it.

Jessica Hynes had to pass her test to do the driving scenes in Learners and did so, at the 3rd attempt, not long before filming started - so no difficulty getting into character then!

Of course the fact that my Doctor Who mad daughter found herself surrounded by very kindly Doctor Who stars who had come along to the premiere certainly didn't detract from the experience ;-)
