92 minutes of my life I'll never get back!Review date: 2008-07-09 Rating: 2 out of 10I initially got this film thinking it might be an interesting flick about the holy wars. I mean, it's a very interesting period in history, and from the blurb, this movie seemed to present an objective tale, looking at both sides.
OMG, but was it a long, meandering, pointless, and dull film. At several points I wanted to just give up, but optimistically, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and resolved to see it to the finish. I really wish I hadn't bothered.
Yes, it's a low budget movie with unknown actors, but that doesn't excuse the storyline being so poor. Surely, it ought to be a redeeming factor for the movie to get made in the first place. I also have to say, being involved in the business myself, that a good chunk of that cash must have gone to wardrobe (which was excellent), and props (the armoury was.... I mean, they had specialist pieces made and a consultant for historic weaponry!).
But back to the story. It focuses on one sole survivor of the Templar Knights sent into a completely idiotic desert campaign against the Moors. Badly injured, he stumbles aimlessly around in the baking heat til he passes out and is rescued by a Muslim traveller, who nurtures him back to health.
They later both end up staying in the tented home of Soheila. A lone woman with her infant, she has been recently widowed (completely unbelievable - where is the extended family? She'd never be left like this to fend for herself with a baby, by her tribe), and is apparently wealthy with suitors passing by on occassion.
They settle into a weird family unit, the knight obviously falling for the beautiful Arabian woman, and live like this for a while. The Muslim traveller, who turns out to be an assasin, has a major breakdown when he discovers his contract to kill the head of the Muslim Armies, was not arranged by the moorish generals, but by the Christians (duh!).
Then it all ends quite abruptly when for no apparent reason, the Templar Knight goes beserk and kills Soheila (probably coz he blames her for tempting him from his duty to God, or something equally stupid), and then savagely and brutally murders the baby.
The end.
If you are thinking WTF from that synopsis, it's as if you watched the actual film.
Now go spend your money on something more deserving.RubbishReview date: 2008-03-08 Rating: 2 out of 10Don`t waste your money or time on this item. Shallow story, bad acting, cheaply made. I`m surprised it was allowed to be released on dvd.Sleep remedyReview date: 2008-02-09 Rating: 2 out of 10I have been having great problems sleeping lately, this film did the trick simply awful!Great cinematography but.........Review date: 2008-01-30 Rating: 4 out of 10Do not bother with this if you are expecting an action film; this production's strengths lie in the way the scenery is captured. As a story, it fails to maintain anything like a firm grip & contains too many passages of little development to either plot or character.
