Not what I expected but not bad
Review date: 2008-11-17 Rating: 8 out of 10

My sister gave me this video for my 3 year old toddler who loved the toy Thomas the Tank trains & tracks but wouldn't watch the TV series for some reason. I played this video for him and, wonder of wonders, he loved it!
I was amazed that it held his attention for the duration as he has a much shorter attention span than my eldest son had at his age.
Although I am used to the much loved British series with Ringo & the new bloke narrating, I found this film quite enjoyable, once I got used to the huge changes. Very 'americanised' which is a tad disappointing but not bad, as it was a nice little story, with a little magic and humour in places.
As kiddies don't expect Acadamy Award winning acting they should enjoy this film as much as my toddler did.
My video player broke last year, so I'm going to splash out on the DVD for my son for Christmas.
I would recommend it as you do get to see a lifesize Thomas, alongside 'real people', albeit with American accents!.

Your child will probably love it, but...
Review date: 2008-05-16 Rating: 6 out of 10

As a parent this is one of the worst films I have ever had to sit through. Terrible acting, terrible sets, terrible story, just bad from beginning to end. Thomas here is just about still English, but his world is entered through the side of a hill in America. So all the characters are American - okay perhaps for the international market and undiscerning todlers, but a travesty for parents who remember watching the 5 minute films narrated by Ringo Starr and who would be forgiven for feeling that part of their childhood has been horribly adulterated. And of course, in Politically Correct America, the Fat Controller becomes "Sir Topham Hatt"

But then again you probably don't care what I think, do you. You want to know if your child will like it? If he/she likes Thomas the tank engine and is 2 years or older, the answer is yes, your child will probably love it - unfortunately.

My advice is to stick to the good old English productions, which are widely available and thankfully sell much better than this Americanised version
