Product Description

Nintendo video game perennials Mario and Luigi come to life as plumbers who are thrust into a parallel dimension peopled by the descendents of dinosaurs. It seems that the meteor that hit the earth 65 million years ago (in Brooklyn, no less) didn't kill the dinosaurs, but hurled them into a world in which they have developed into a species of intelligent humanoids. And it is up to the Mario brothers to save Princess Daisy, and life as we know it, from the megalomaniacal Koopa, who wants to merge the two dimensions and rule the world that will result.

My review
Review date: 2008-02-16 Rating: 10 out of 10

What can I say? It's not a great movie and not a bad movie, but has a special place in my collection. It's one of those movies that makes you feel like a kid again, which is rare.

What a bizarre, horrible mess!
Review date: 2008-01-15 Rating: 2 out of 10

The Super Mario games have always been fun to play, but has anybody really cared too much about the storyline? Nintendo insists on packaging each Mario game with some kind of strange story, but nothing in the games even comes close to this movie. The magical fantasy elements have instead been replaced by sci-fi, with the Mushroom Kingdom portrayed as a parallel world filled with evolved dinosaurs. If not for the character names and the odd gimmicky reference to various power-ups from the game, this has nothing in common with the franchise. It's up there with other embarrassing video game adaptations like Street Fighter and House Of The Dead. Why this got a DVD release I don't know. All copys should be ritually burned.

King Bowser makes a inspiring appearance
Review date: 2007-12-16 Rating: 10 out of 10

David Sullivan plays an awesome King Bowser, where he really comes out of his shell. Chris Thomas, playing Luigi, has sprung a leak in this plumbing role but taps on his knowledge for a fluid performance. Mario, water apperance, certainly not sinking to a low. Christian Parker certianly plays this role well and pipes up.

There is not mushroom for Wolstencroft's Toad, but he's a funguy. Luke Bailey has a peachy debut performance as princess.
