Wasn't what I was expecting
Review date: 2008-11-19 Rating: 4 out of 10

I don't have many hairs left on my head but the ones I have, this guy can make them stand up ! (along side, Rory G, Walter Trout, Al Di Meola, Frank Marino, Trevor Rabin)

I bought this cos I thought it would have some highlights of Richie's solo's and antics on stage (many of which you can see on youtube), showing why he was a "Guitar God".

However, this documentery doesn't show at all why he was a God. It does have interesting and resonably accurate commentary and not thru rose-tinted spectacles.

Buy the concert footage and judge for yourself rather than relying on this DVD to tell you 'Why'.

Where is the info on how he composed the rifs, the speed changes, the use of effects, the key changes, the hints of blues, the musical interchanges with the other band memebers; these are the things that make Richie so great - THE FEEL.

Ritchie Blackmore's career given the red carpet treatment
Review date: 2007-09-28 Rating: 10 out of 10

This booklet plus DVD is the finest video documentary I have ever seen on any Rock Musician. The photographs in the booklet are stunning and many of them are new to me,and I've been interested in Ritchies career for 25 years.Cram packed with past band members and acquaintances.Interwoven around video footage of Ritchie from Leeds Polytechnic,Granada T.V studios Manchester, with rare clips of Deep Purple and Rainbow.Concert footage from Germany and Japan. In fact many things on here I've never seen before and I have got all the past releases of Ritchie on DVD.Some of the inclusions have been available previously. But there is enough new items on here to keep me happy and other die hard Ritchie fans happy Interviews with Glenn Hughes,Joe Lynn Turner,Doogie White,Don Airey and most suprising of all Bobby Rondinelli.Past interviews on screen of David Coverdale and John Lord, more items I've never ever seen or heard.Ritchie,Ian Gillan/Paice talk openly about the experiences they lived through throughout the '70's.Nick Simper talking candidly about his brush with fame.Ronnie James Dio the man we Rainbow fans love and adore also contributes.A lot of the interviews are snippets from back in the day, with a neat production trick of showing a cassette tape playing during the interviews layered over images of the various bands and photos of Ritchie. This video is very informative and fascinating.Thoughtful and stylish this Dvd has good production qualities. All the contributions about Ritchie are both brutally, very honest and also flattering as mostly everybody speaks very highly about someone Rock fans embrace and keep close to their hearts.Ritchie Blackmore is a guitar God.An absolute must buy for any Rock fan or Ritchie Blackmore hero worshipper 10/10
