If, 18 years ago, you'd told rapper Ice Cube he would have a hit family movie called Are We There Yet?, he would've sneered in your face. Yet here he is with that movie's sequel, Are We Done Yet?, in which Nick Persons (Cube, Barbershop, Friday) takes his new wife Suzanne (Nia Long, Big Momma's House) and her two cantankerous kids out to an old house in the country. Unfortunately, the house proves to have a few problems, and Nick finds himself at the mercy of real estate agent/contractor/house inspector/midwife Chuck (John C. McGinley, Scrubs), who before long is turning Nick's house--and his life--inside out.

The script for Are We Done Yet? is based on a classic (though little remembered) Cary Grant movie, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House. While Cube doesn't have Grant's comic skills, he has grown into a comfortable and charming screen presence, and he gives this ramshackle entertainment a decent foundation. But it's McGinley who steals the movie with his truly bizarre yet mesmerizing performance. Aside from some pratfalls, Cube spends most of the movie staring in horror and astonishment at McGinley as the tall lanky white man walks a very fine line between comedy and schizophrenia. --Bret Fetzer

Great film!

I don't know why lots of people say this is a rubbish sequel and its that rubbish it didn't even come out into the cinemas - but they're all wrong! This film is really good, it's funny, bright and in some parts, emotional. It shows what bad luck can do to a family - REALLY bad luck! I would recommend this DVD to 3-13 year olds - its a great film for the kiddies to watch on a friday night!

A saga thats "Done" and dusted, hopefully!

I rented this out purely based on 2 things. Firstly, I work at Blockbuster, so I get free rentals (I won't rub it in guys!) but also because it looked quite funny, which is what we all need for an evening with nothing else on TV!
I've known 'Ice Cube' to be in various films before this; 'Three Kings' and 'X X X' spring to mind, both of which he was his usual self, that being someone who can't act and should maybe stick to his other career of chatting about guns, girls, and his dog dying for 3:30 minutes as a rapper.
But it was good to see him in this film with a more suitable role for him, that act being acting daft. And to be honest, thats all this film is - daft as a brush. Admittedly, it's supposed to be a family comedy, but it's so predictable that I think even your kids would know when he's about to full through the house roof and not.
The plot is straightforward enough - Ice Cube (easier to remember, sorry) and his family are looking for a place to move in, and so they go on the search in the countryside and find a seemingly perfect place. But obviously, he doesn't take into account the fact it needs about 90% re-conditioning.
Selling the house is a seemingly weird and eccentric man who, stereotypically in the small town, knows everything and does everything. So when 'cube' hires the electrician to repair yet more problems, he turns up... yoga classes, he's their!
This is undoubtedly the funniest side of the film, because he's actually a good actor and is entertaining. The other actors, however, are simply poor and show's signs this was either a low budget movie, or the producers couldn't be bothered talent searching.
Either way, the final product is a predictable, but still chuckle-filled film worthy of watching if you're bored. It has to be said that you'd be mad to buy this on DVD, even with such a glut of terrible cheap films out their. If you are in search of a family film based 'around' a family, then "Cheaper by the Dozen" retains at least some proper comedy, and is better quality. As for Ice Cube, maybe he'd better off pursuing his Ice Cubed talents? Whatever they are!

"Are We Done Yet" - lets hope so!

Are We Done Yet? I hope so

I was so happy to here Ice Cube make a sequal to the great movie of Are We There Yet?. But now watching this movie Are We Done Yet? this movie really tried so hard to make people laugh and it failed. The kids looked bored in this one thats the truth in the first they were having loads of fun in this it feels kind of serious. Then their is John C. McGinley he plays Chuck a man who does everything a police man, a builder, house wife do i need to go on thats over the top. John C. McGinley i don't mind but in this movie he was annoying. Ice Cube i thought was good in this he tired to be funny but just never worked you can blame the people who wrote the movie for that.

Are We Done Yet? just really involes Ice Cube and his family to move into a big house that needs sorting out with a whole load of problems. This movie has it had tons of problems wrong with it watch the movie and see what i mean.

Good sequel!

Ice Cube returns in this decent sequel to Are We There Yet. This time Nick Persons (Ice Cube) is now married to Suzanne (Nia Long)and he takes her and the kids Lindsey & Kevin out to live in a new house in the country away from the city. However the house turns out to have a few problems and their idea of a dream home is disturbed by Chuck who happens to be a real estate agent, a contractor, a midwife & a house inspector played superbly by John C. McGinley who really steals the show in this film. This film is very similar to that 1948 Cary Grant film, Mr Blandings Builds His Dream House, Ice Cube gives a decent performance in this film. It's something the whole family can enjoy watching!

I like this

this film was quite good. I liked it because it was funny and just as good as the first one which was brilliant. 5 satrs dosent mean the movie is absoulutely perfect. There are some points which do get quite boring but then a phew minuites later something that is good will then come on.

Next the acting. The two children have grown up alot so they have learnt ow to act a lot better, and ice cube is, well he is ice cube, funny and a brilliant actor. Some of the points in the movie had quite bad acting, but then the characters wouldget it together and then be good actors and actresses.

The overall film was good, it did only just get a five star rating, but that dosen't mean it was a bad film. If you liked the first film you should mostly like this film, and you will laugh quite a lot because this is a very good comedy film for the year.
