Half Past Dead

Despite critical roasting and a blink and you missed it theatrical release, Half Past Dead is surprisingly not half bad. Once you recognise the film's recent action flick heritage (The Rock being the most obvious of a dozen pilfered plot lines), you can kick back and enjoy the unexpected perks that arise when a deep-cover FBI sleuth (Steven Seagal) accompanies a convicted crook (rapper Ja Rule) into "New Alcatraz" prison. A death row killer (Bruce Weitz) sits on a $200 million goldmine, keeping his secret as a bargaining chip when criminal commandos (led by the ever cool Morris Chestnut) drop in for a lethally greedy raid. After cutting his teeth on trashy, short-lived TV series, director Don Michael Paul can't do much to help an ageing Seagal, but he's got lively allies in Ja Rule and Nia Peeples (forget Lara Croft, this girl rocks), and even legendary action-TV producer Stephen J. Cannell drops in for a cameo. Derivative from the word go, but fun just the same. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

Half Past Dead 2

Former WWE & WCW World Champion Bill Goldberg and hip hop group Tha Dog Pound's Ricardo 'Kurupt' Brown push life to the limit in this explosive sequel to the 2002 hit movie Half Past Dead.

Burk (Goldberg) and Twitch (Kurupt), are two inmates serving time at Craton Prison, a notoriously tough and violent penitentiary ruled by rival gangs. When a riot breaks out and the prison goes into lockdown, the two must form an unlikely alliance to stay alive. Together, they navigate the hostile gang territory under the watchful eye of unsympathetic prison guards, in order to learn the identity of the inmate responsible for the riot. Eventually Burk discovers that gang leader, Cortez, is behind the riot and finds that he's taken two hostages: Cherise, Twitch's fiancee and Ellie, Burk's daughter. Twitch and Burk find they must work together in order to save their loved ones and bring Cortez down.

HALF PAST DEAD:

This is an above average Seagal film, that's entertaining enough, and Ja Rule was surprisingly decent!. I love prison films, so i was excited about seeing this one, and i happen to be a huge Seagal fan, and i wasn't disappointed i got what i expected above average entertainment, plus Steven Seagal is simply amazing in this!. Basically this is mindless entertainment and i loved it, and all the characters were very cool, plus the ending will put a big grin on your face!. the character development was above average, and some of the fight scenes were really cool, plus Seagal and Ja Rule had good chemistry together. Morris Chestnut gives a good performance as the main villain, and it had a couple of shocking moments, plus the finale was good. This is an above average Seagal film, that's entertaining enough, and Ja Rul was surprisingly decent!, well worth a watch!. The direction is good.Don Michael Paul does a good job here, with good camera work, stylish shots and keeping the film at a fast pace.as for gore nothing but a couple gunshot wounds, and other minor stuff. The Acting is very good. Steven Seagal is AMAZING as always, and is amazing here, he is very likable, kicks that ass, had good chemistry with Ja Rule, was convincing and was really fantastic overall! (Seagal rules!). Morris Chestnut is good as the main villain, he was menacing, and seemed to be having fun with his role. Ja Rule is surprisingly decent here, and did a rather decent job in my opinion i liked him. rest of the cast are good. Overall well worth a watch!. *** out of 5

HALF PAST DEAD 2:

I didn't have high expectations when I saw this movie. I thought the first one was OK but when I heard that Seagal was not in the sequel I thought that was the kiss of death. But I was pleasantly surprised and actually enjoyed the movie. I thought Bill Goldberg did an excellent job and Kurrupt really shined. Overall I felt the script needed a lot of work but for what it was, the pacing helped overcome the weak plot and the competent Directing kept it going. It is definitely worth seeing only if you are just out to enjoy a movie. If you're one of those that has to read something into every movie you see then this is not for you. If you just want a cool weekend flick to watch, this one's for you.
