Episodes 3.5 (Progeny) & 3.6 (The Real World) are a somewhat unconventional two-parter, a follow up to the first season episode "Hot Zone", that introduce the new major adversaries to the Atlantis in the form of the Asurans. Although on the surface the Asurans, seem to be a retold version of the Replicators of Stargate SG-1, however in fact it seems like a cleaver way of explaining the answers to gaps in the Stargate mythology. With the first episode introducing the new villains with some remarkable special effects for a television series, the second being character piece for Dr Weir. The inclusion of Stargate SG-1 lead man Richard Dean Anderson in "The Real World", adds to this smart episode. Episode 3.7 (Common Ground) returns the forces back to the Wraith and the human adversaries the Genii. Although on the surface the episode is an insight to the character of Lt. Col John Sheppard, the episode also revels a major revelation about the Wraith. Episode 3.8 (McKay and Mrs. Miller) introduces McKay's estranged sister Jeanie. The episode allows actor David Hewlett, to explore more of his character thought interactions with his sister and by playing a alternate version of himself, both added to light more comic moments to the episode in-between the serious elements of the episode. This collection of four episodes continues the high quality of the previous volume.
