Nothing Special But Not Bad...
Review date: 2008-10-18 Rating: 6 out of 10
This wasn't as bad as I expected...and I have such low expectations these days when I watch semi-creepy religious/satanic horror movies like this. I'm basically still recovering from the dross that was 'Stigmata'. The Reaping wasn't even close (thank the lord) and it did pass the time pleasantly enough.
Basically we have jaded ex-missionary Hilary Swank debunking her lil heart out 'cause she's narked off with God and doesn't believe in miracles anymore. Cue one major opportunity to go to some quaint uber-religious town tucked away in Louisiana to help try and debunk away why they seem to be besieged by the ancient biblical plagues of Egypt. Apparently they blame a scruffy little girl from a shunned family who practiced strange cult-y stuff and creeped everyone out. It's up to Hilary to find out the truth before the town form a mob and lynch the lil scamp. A fairly entertaining movie with some good but not exactly original twists. My favourite bit was the river turned into blood scene. It was very well done.

Reimaginging of Rosemarie's Baby?Review date: 2008-08-30 Rating: 6 out of 10This is a kind of reimagining of Rosemarie's baby, a scientist who spends her time debunking miracles or inexplicably odd environmental disasters is sent to a small town which is experiencing plagues of the biblical variety.
There are revelations about the scientist, why she has lost her faith, the town, they arent what they seem, and a child who is scapegoated by the townspeople as the source of the trouble.
While its not a total surprise (unless you where surprised by "twists" like that in The Sixth Sense) there is an entertaining "twist" just at the finish of the story, which leaves a kind of cliff hanger and talking point but doesnt leave you wondering what was going on or leaves you feeling like the movie's some how incomplete.
Worth renting, I dont know that its particularly worth owning, its not a very cerebrally challenging movie, doesnt take a lot of thinking about and its more of an actioner or thriller than the suspenseful Rosemarie's baby and there isnt a lot of rewatch value with this movie. Just awful!Review date: 2008-08-05 Rating: 2 out of 10This film is awful. I bought it to take me over the £15 mark so I could get free delivery and even at just £3 it is a rip off!
I thought it might be half decent, but it is a film full of cliches. Badly acted, with a threadbare predictable plot, even the special effects are ridiculous. And it is not even scary one little bit. Oh, and we've seen the pubescent girl with blood running down her legs way before (Carrie), and the 'redneck' spooky little American town, and the lead character who is fighting her own loss of faith due to a terrible personal tragedy (and without wishing to give anything away, why wasn't she murdered too?).
If you want something scary, original and gripping don't look here.
I'm starting to wonder if this is bad intentionally!Brilliant FilmReview date: 2008-06-27 Rating: 10 out of 10This film is fantastic - it has so many twists and turns in it that you will never be able to predict the ending! Scary but not bone chilling, it has a wierd and wonderful plot that will have you on the edge of your seat throughout!solid and enjoyableReview date: 2008-06-06 Rating: 6 out of 10i went in too this expecting it to be rubbish and was pleasently surprised
