A great project
Review date: 2008-04-15 Rating: 8 out of 10
This film is such an unusual idea, and it's brilliant to see what a success it is. An ambitious project sees John Schneider (of Duke's of Hazzard fame) undertake a family project to bring to life a story he wrote years ago back when he was on the Dukes. He writes the story, stars, produces and directs the film. Even his music makes up a good part of the soundtrack. His wife and daughter star in key roles and his son is working on cameras. But don't for a second let that sound like a bad thing. John has the experience in all these areas to pull it off and it is clear that a lot of effort went into making it all work successfully.
Well perhaps it doesn't quite stand up to Hollywood productions, but then it was never meant too. This family film has a slightly amateur style at times but you find that adds to the charm. It is very well acted, and it is a good story that will keep you engrossed start to finish, and the stunts and racing is also good fun.
I think the point to note is that so many people have compared it to the Dukes of Hazzard, it isn't really that. It is a new story and it steals nothing from the Dukes format. However, that doesn't mean it's not forgotten. Schneider has intentionally gone for the record of 'how many references to a classic show can you fit in a film'. This is an added bonus for Duke's fans, just count how many references you find, the orange Charger is the obvious one but look out for tshirts, signs, old props, music in the background etc etc - there are a lot. This has no effect on none Dukes fans because this is all quietly hidden in the background of a film that is definately a stand alone film in it's own right.
If you like a happy family story, if you like a bit of car racing and general good fun look no further, you have here a wonderful film that avoids the standard formats Hollywood insists upon and simply follows the story from start to finish. Enjoy!

The Best Family Film...Review date: 2007-09-18 Rating: 10 out of 10John Schnieder's Collier and Co is exactly the type of family movie we should be showing our children and future generations for many years to come. Not only does it exclude the vulger profanities and sexual content that most movies avaliable show today, but it appeals to all generations and styles of fans. Not only that, but to make the point, his whole family is involved with his wife as J.R Collier's wife, his own daughter starring as his daughter and his mother in law playing as his mother in this truly fantastic film.
For the boy racers, you've got the awsome cars...John's collection is very impressive in this movie...and the stunts which he pulls. I won't give any secrets away, you have to buy it and see...however as you can tell from the front cover of the DVD, the classic orange 1969 dodge charger is included - its almost become John's signiture car I recon.
For the girls, mums and nans out there, you have the family closeness and protection that is lacking not only in movies but tv shows airing too. It helps raise awareness that you have to do things as a family in order to succeed and that is an important lesson that, in my humble opinion, should be delievered to children frequently and strongly.
And for all the original tv show 'Dukes of Hazzard' fans, you have cheeky boy John Schneider - aka Bo Duke, or Jonathan Kent from Smallville - as the leading man, and as director of course you have the little Dukes of Hazzard quotes that will undoubtledly have you grinning from ear to ear.
Of course with a limited budget, the special effects...as far as I know...arn't as classy and fantastic as all the hollywood pictures...however what must be remembered is, that this is the work of a truly dedicated director and actor who wants to put out something that the whole family can sit down and enjoy...my 4 year old sister enjoys watching it and we all know how hard it is to entertain the very little youngin's.
Congratulations to John on a fantastic, family-orientated movie and good luck with the next one!
Buy this DVD, you'd be a fool not to.
