At long last...

... someone finally took it up to themselves to unearth this precious gem out of some dusty archives. As a DVD, it's a very bare-bones product, with nothing but the whole six (!) episodes of the series, but quite frankly, that's all it needs.
A laugh riot from start to finish, with a few notable misses, which the tremendous hits more than make up for. Highly recommended. No, make that mandatory.

UK Play sketch show featuring a host of embryo comedy talent - Mitchell And Webb,(Peep Show) Martin Freeman,(The Office) Matthew Colman (Darkplace)- and sketches written by a pre-'Office' Ricky Gervais, according to a sticker on the cover of my copy. Hit and miss, but a lot of great stuff - Martin Freeman's 'Lager Lad who reads New Age Literature' sketches the standout for me.

Whilst occasionally patchy, there's some inspired stuff in this offbeat BBC show. Martin Freeman's got some excellent characters - the paranoid man, the husband who keeps telling his wife he's turned gay, the archaeologist based on Time Team, Sparky the puppet etc ... Mitchell, Webb, Colman and Hollness fans will get a lot of the show too. First aired in 2000, Bruiser didn't go 'straight to DVD' - a good sign!

I caught this when it was on the pre BBC 3 channel UK Play, this along with the great Fun At The Funeral Parlour were little nuggets in their late night schedules.
Containing some of the rising stars of comedy today, pre fame; Matthew Holness (Garth Merenghi) Mitchell and Webb, Olivia Coleman (In everything at the moment) Martin Freeman (Tim in the office) and a lady who was in Braniac!
Bruiser is very hit and miss, but when it is a hit it is as good as any sketch show. Some sketches were faves of mine and I still think they are really funny, Sparky the annoying puppet and outdoor wee a couple of faves.
It is obviously reminiciant of Mitchell and Webb's recent sketch show as they are the writers here too, and also that familar feeling of hit and miss-ness.
It is worth a purchase if you are a fan, though the sticker saying "Co Written by Ricky Gervais" seems a bit desperate!!
