a DARKER more brutal season of Xena
Review date: 2008-07-21 Rating: 8 out of 10

well 4.5 stars anyway...it was an almost perfect season but it did have a handful of duds(:( )but it does boast some astounding episodes.
here is a mini review of the eppies-
The Furies-4/5-the season opener which surprisingly has a few surprises in store.
Been there,Done That-5/5-a classic and very comical episode.
The Dirty Half Dozen-1/5-we could have done without it really.
The Deliverer-4/5-a very good episode that starts off the arc for the season...its dark and very brutal.
Gabrielle's Hope-5/5-i love it basically because its a loose spin on Rosemary's Baby and that it adds tension on Xena and Gabrielles friendship...i personally love it.
The Debt*-5/5-a feature length eppy that delves deeper into Xenas evil background and is a very good plotline with some artistic cinematography.
The King Of Assassins-0/5-why?!?
Warrior Priestess Tramp-4/5-a very good comical episode...who doesn't love Meg?
The Quill is Mightier-3.5/5-another very good comedy episode.
Maternal Instincs(1)*-5/5-a sheer classic that sees the return of Callisto and...Hope...its of epic standards and is very intense.
The Bitter Suite(2)*-a Musical spectacular that is a highlight of the season and another one of the greatest episodes ever!!!plus everyones in it.
One Against An Army-3/5-aside from great battle sequences and adding to Gabby and Xenas relationship this episode would have been forgettable but...it isnt.
Forgiven-0/5-awful.
King Con-2/5-works and doesnt work on many levels.
When In Rome...-3/5-decent enough episode to add to Gabrielles turmoil for the season...poor girl.
Forget Me Not-1/5-an almost pointless filler episode without Xena.
Fins Femmes and Gems*-5/5-a classic and its very, very funny!!!
Tsunami-4/5-intense and very claustrophobic.
Vanashing Act-0/5-contender for the worst episode ever.
Sacrifice**-5/5-a finale of epic measures...confrontations galore and wraps up the whole of this seasons arc...its dark and brutal and one of the shows greatest episodes ever...it even beats Bitter Suite...i defy you if you don't shed a tear for the astonishing conclusion!!!
stunning.
all in all a very good season with some amazing episodes with a few awful ones...but it is very nearly perfect and definately worth purchasing.

Xena still impresses
Review date: 2007-09-03 Rating: 10 out of 10

If you insist on shows having high budget or on strict adherence to the classics leave this well alone. If on the other hand you enjoy highly entertaining television with strongly defined characters then give this a thought.
Xena's world is modelled on ancient Greece, but given the financial restrictions that the producers were under, the show tends to use modern colloquialisms and references (such as Joxer saying 'I'll call you'.) But this isn't a mistake, it's deliberate. The storylines generally hang together well, the three main heroes are convincing (to a modern perspective if not a Classical one) the action is remarkably satisifying for its time. This season mixes some very intense and dark episodes with some outright farcial comedies, and if the viewer can let go of the insistence that everything Classical should conform to a Herotodus-like level of sobriety and detail, and manages to look past the low budget, the overall product is immensely enjoyable and watchable.
