More classic impressions
Review date: 2007-08-04 Rating: 10 out of 10
Hot on the heels of series 1's DVD release comes series 2. Compared to the first series, the episodes went from 10 minutes to 15, and more substantial plots were introduced, but this series manages to retain almost all the freewheeling energy of its forerunner. It's clear that the budget was expanded too. Dirk Bogarde moves out and we're introduced to Pam and Gray Slurrey from Dorking (two repellant suburbanites who inform Mrs Huggett her services are no longer required) and Jack Flatley (washed up entertainer charged a nominal rent of £80 per week to stay with Michael Caine). John Hurt's character is developed, Al Pacino ages and the Stones carry on more or less as usual, but haunted by the Beatles. Also, Alan Rickman turns up at the end to demolish the street... This is another classic series that is presented here on vanilla DVD. Series 2 was later re-edited to 15 ten minute episodes, and there were one or two slight additions (such as Al Pacino's prenuptial agreement). These don't appear to be included, sadly. Any fan of impressions will want to own this fun series.
