Fabulous British 'feel-good' movie!
Review date: 2008-04-19 Rating: 10 out of 10
Whilst not a massive fan of the 'Wisdom' films, this stands by itself.
A friend of Norman's once told me that Wisdom had a delightful and wonderful time making this picture with Sally Geeson - and one can see why! Sally would not stay in pictures long, and should have made more movies - she was great in this! (as are both the Geesons whatever they appear in) Sally too, certainly looked as if she was having fun making this film, and this is definitely a 'feel good' movie that will appeal to many.
Norman Wisdom was well into his fifties when he made this, and certainly looked very fit and healthy for that age, and for that time - looking very attractive in some shots too! Quite a late film for Norman and a somewhat 'new' genre for him. This movie was pretty daring in some instances, and how they got away with the two fingers in the mouth whilst they were driving along is quite amazing! (remember; this was forty years ago!!)
The thing that probably held this film back, and did not do it any favours, was its title - not very imaginative. Considering its vivaciousness, it should have had something more exciting as its name.
Terry Alexander also stars - looking good as always, and some other well-know faces, including David Lodge.
There's a great theme song to this to which also does the movie some great justice.
