An enjoyable film, but not a classic as such
Review date: 2008-10-29 Rating: 6 out of 10
Although Amazon have chosen to place Peter Sellers as the star of this film please don't be fooled into thinking that this is his film, the main stars are very much Tony Hancock and Sid James, Peter Sellers appears a number of times for short stints, but that's about it.
I found this to be an enjoyable film with good performances by the whole cast, don't expect a laugh a minute comedy, it's more a film that'll make you smile/laugh from time to time as opposed constant laughs.
I'm a huge fan of Sid James and a great admirer of both Peter Sellers and Tony Hancock and there's a small role for Eric Sykes too so I'd say I'd have enjoyed this film almost regardless I guess, but this is by no means a bad film and as for one of the other reviewers saying that orders are orders is being constantly said I can only assume I must have a different version of the film as I only heard this said ONCE in the entire film.
I purchased this as part of a 3 film pack including Where does it hurt?, The Blockhouse and this film, Peter Sellers appears in all three and stars in the other 2 and I found them for only a few pounds more than the cost of this film on it's own, so if you're a Peter Sellers fan then you may fancy spending a few more pounds to get all three films.

for historic film value only.Review date: 2007-07-11 Rating: 4 out of 10a waste of an opportunity in my opinion; the chance to have three brilliant comic actors in one film and the results are average to say the least. i'm referring to tony hancock, sid james and peter sellers. luckily, they do have one scene together that lasts for only about a few seconds but worth the wait.
the "plot" of the film is non-existent and the script is laughter-free. sellers and bill fraser dressed as martians is mildly amusing but that's about it.
only buy and watch this as a curiosity. there is historic value in that you will notice the first film appearance of hancock and peter sellers in an early film role whilst still learning his craft.
Real genuine B movie.....for Hancock/Sellers/James completists ONLYReview date: 2007-06-19 Rating: 6 out of 10I saw this clunker on the box one day. It has historic value in that it is the FIRST FILM APPEARANCE of Tony Hancock.
He saves the day! He is unfunny!
Plot: An American film unit led by Sid James (Waggermeyer) take over an army base while the commanding officer is away. It's a remake of a film made in the 30's and notable for the sight of folks like Sellers at the very start of their film careers, while they were obviously still learning their craft.
"Down among the Z Men" is bad but this film is worse. Truly, mind bogglingly awful and an example of what B movies were like when they were made solely to provide a quota of British films for home consumption.
Buy it. Make the kids watch it (strap them down, you'll have to)
It will make them appreciate mediocre comedy all the more.
BTW the title phrase "Orders are Orders" is repeated as justification for most things throughout the film.
It is NO DEFENCE.
