Amazon.co.uk Review

In the comedy Let's Go to Prison, revenge proves not so sweet for John Lyshitski (Dax Shepard, Employee of the Month), an incompetent ex-con who manages to get the son of the judge who first convicted him sent to prison. But John finds that unsatisfying, so he gets himself sent back to prison so he can guarantee that Nelson Biederman the IVth (Will Arnett, Arrested Development) gets the works. From there, Let's Go to Prison squeezes as much uneasy humour out of male rape and white supremacists as is possible. The results could be tasteless, but director Bob Odenkirk (of Mr. Show) gives everything his own particular flavour, which his fans will undoubtedly enjoy. Shepard has an amiable charm and Arnett oozes some of his patented smarmy arrogance. The cast also includes Chi McBride (Roll Bounce), David Koechner (Anchorman), and Dylan Baker (Happiness). --Bret Fetzer

Let's Not Go To Prison
Review date: 2007-08-20 Rating: 4 out of 10

This film is about a career criminal who decides to avenge himself by getting the son of a Judge arrested and put into a high security prison. To make sure that the rich lad gets punished he gets himself arrested just so that he can spend time in jail in the same cell. However, will he be able to watch the prison system chew and spit out an innocent man?

'Let's go to Prison' is billed as a comedy and in some parts it is funny. However, the tone is far too dark and uncomfortable for it to an enjoyable watch. It's like a slightly lighter 'Oz' with jokes about male rape, stabbings and drugs. Even with my high level of tolerance I found it far too crass to be enjoyable. This is a shame as the comedic acting is actually very good, especially Dax Shepard and Will Arnett. If they had lightened the tone a bit this could have been a cult classic.

How do you do it Barry?

This movie is pure-hilarity!

From John trying to cash the big cheque he's just stolen aged 9, to Baby Duck wine and painting 'White Power' onto Nelson's head right before his parole hearing.

Cult humour at its best.
