Synopsis
Two former outlaws try to start fresh in this Western series from the mind of Glen Larson (Magnum P.I.). Kid Curry (Ben Murphy) and Hannibal Heyes (Pete Duel) may have new names (the Smith and Jones of the title) and new lives, but their past keeps finding them. To get a pardon from the governor, they must attempt to live crime-free lives, a difficult task with zealous bounty hunters and bandits around every corner. This release presents the first series of the classic show from the 1970s.

Quite the best way to spend a wet Saturday afternoon ... wasn't sure whether it would live up to the fond memories I had of it, but it didn't disappoint. Still just as much fun now as it was then. Hope they bring out series 2 soon!

Alias Smith and JonesReview date: 2008-03-15 Rating: 10 out of 10Watched every episode in the 70's,when I saw the series was now on dvd could not believe my luck.To me it was the best western series ever the only one coming close being The High Chaperal. I am waiting to see if that is being released. Pete Duel was my favorite I just loved that cheeky look on his face. when he died the series was not Quite as good but still excellent. I cant remember the actor who replaced him. All in all a fantastic buy for all Western fansTongue in cheek cowboy funReview date: 2008-02-20 Rating: 10 out of 10I have waited a very long time for this DVD!
AS&J is one of my all time favourite shows and Pete Duel has always been my favourite actor. He was, sadly, taken from us far too soon.
It's Pete and Ben Murphy's on screen chemistry and excellent timing that really make this show so enjoyable and easy to watch. They are supported by some brilliant guest stars - J D Cannon as Harry Briskow is superb - and some interesting story lines with lots of gags to keep you smiling all the way.
Nostalgic? Yes - and I love every minute of it!!How do you review a classic? - Just buy and enjoyReview date: 2007-12-31 Rating: 10 out of 10Like many this is a nostalgia trip, but as this 70's series was set in the 19th century as westerns are it doesn't look that dated, and it still retains the charm from all those years ago - if you loved it then, you'll love it now - a real feelgood programme without being too sickly - just buy it and enjoy one of the best US series ever made. Never go back!Review date: 2007-08-20 Rating: 6 out of 10I loved this programme when I was a kid. Sunday afternoons were incomplete without it (and frankly there wasn't a lot to do on Sunday afternoons in the early seventies). When it became available, I rushed out and bought it, keen to relive my childhood memories.
But, of course, it's just a rather homely ripoff of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
You can never go back.
