The four MHL events in this boxed set are the first events without Derek Acorah. Although not as entertaining, David Wells and Gordon Smith do a very good job as Mediums and are just as watchable as Mr Acorah.

At The Bluecoat in Liverpool the team make use of a dog-handler whose Alsatian is apparently able to detect spirit activity. During a seance the team place a small bell on the table and as the table moves the bell rings. Many objects are thrown at the team as they move through the building and Soundman Jon Dibley is sure he saw a shadow move past a window. During a seance at The Wirral Museum a table actually rotates and as the team progress more objects are thrown at them. At The Royal Court Theatre Yvette Fielding's husband Karl Beattie is allegedly pushed and pulled down a small passage in the basement. He describes it as the most frightening experience of his life. During another seance a table is lifted off the floor and is held up by an unknown force.

The next three live events alternate between Paul Ross in the studio with a live studio audience and the team at the locations. At Wymering Manor, Portsmouth, David Wells encounters the spirit of one of Nelson's Captains. He also encounters a group of debauched monks. Historian Richard Felix has an ancient cross torn from his neck by unseen hands. In a first for MH two team-members are buried alive in a coffin at Southsea Castle. At the Royal Marine Museum Soundman Jon Gilbert suddenly collapses. He describes feeling as though his mouth was forced open and his head exploding. Allegedly, a Marine did shoot himself in the building.

When the team enter Parc Howard Museum in Llanelli, Wales, they encounter some astounding auditory phenomena. At Llanelli House Yvette tries communicating with a spirit by whistling. During a seance the team are blasted with icy-cold air and Yvette is physically sick. At Kidwelly Castle Karl and guest Medium Ian Shillito are shackled and have steel helmets put on their heads as part of a sensory deprivation experiment.

For the twenty-first MHL the team are in a jubilant mood. That soon changes however. In The Blair Street Vaults, Edinburgh, a cameraman has a stone thrown at his face. In the "Boots" room Stuart Torevell pushes Karl into a table and then throws him across the room. Before the team even begin to investigate The Niddry Street Vaults they encounter a relentless knocking sound. The team then enter a room where pagan rituals have taken place. Stuart then complains he feels sick and depressed. Then he says he has been stabbed and after removing his jacket and shirt we get to see several lacerations on his back which need medical attention. At Mary King's Close the team find the spirit of a little boy who was trapped behind a brick wall.

The access all areas shows are very informative and amusing. People involved in the show and fans of the show talk about themselves and a few light-hearted sketches are included. Behind-the-scenes features are also included. Who would have thought that 120 crew members work on a MHL event? And who would have thought that the show itself was inspired by The Blair Witch Project?

MHL 5 is another dramatic addition to the series although MHL 4 has more casualties and it remains to be seen how long certain team-members can be subjected to physical attacks and emotional abuse.
