Amazon.co.uk Review

In delivering non-18-rated excitement, Alien vs. Predator is an acceptably average science-fiction action thriller with some noteworthy highlights, even if it squanders its opportunity to intelligently combine two popular franchises. Rabid fans can justifiably ask "Is that all there is?" after a decade of development hell and eager anticipation, but we're compensated by reasonably logical connections to the Alien legacy and the still-kicking Predator franchise (which hinted at AVP rivalry at the end of Predator 2); some cleverly claustrophobic sets, tense atmosphere and impressive digital effects; and a climactic AVP smackdown that's not half bad. This disposable junk should've been better, but nobody who's seen Mortal Kombat or Resident Evil should be surprised by writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson's lack of imagination. As a brisk, 90-minute exercise in generic thrills, however, Anderson's work is occasionally impressive... right up to his shameless opening for yet another sequel. --Jeff Shannon

ok ok so its a mixed bag

ok ok ok. i get the picture. a large number of fans dont like this cash in for the franchise.and ok admittedly it is not the greatest science fiction movie that ever was or ever will be. but when you have had a bad day at work and come home needing to see innocent people die. then this..... like alot of lacklustre action/horror/thrillers now ticks all boxes. it's humour is hugely enjoyable. to those fans who were expecting the intelligence of Alien need to live in the real world. wont happen... ever... again. if you want and intelligent action thriller watch something like man on fire or red dragon or even at a push anything with samuel l. jackson in it. but if you want escapism with an amazing blend of cgi and animatronic effects then this is the funny violent 21st century B-movie for you

Should have been based on the comics...
Review date: 2008-09-16 Rating: 2 out of 10

The comics had an amazing story which could have served as storyboards for the movie. Absolutely no reason why this should have been based on aything but those but still I'll buy the DVD because I'm a franchise completist but it certainly doesn't mean I'll ever watch it again.

If you own it don't buy it again

If you already own the two disc extreame addition of this film dont bother buying it again they both have exactly the same features no different ones at all the only plus is that it comes in a stell tin over the crappy standard dvd cases that a majority of films come out in.

Not Definitive may never be

I have seen a fourth version of this film in the cinema when it first came out. The version I have seen is not out on DVD. I bought the Definitive (unrated) edition DVD with the extra 8 minutes thinking that would have everything, but there is more. The definitive edition does not have the Alien Queen being injected to speed up the growth of the Aliens, I remember that bit distinctly. I also believe there is greater character development of the Blond haired Girl before they leave the ship. This really winds me up that these are probably small extra bits that must be somewhere but they have been cut out of the DVD

Its just a film do not get upset by this

I do love how people decide to write a review about how intellectual a script is and the use of suspense bla bla. Its an action film. You either love it or don't. This is not about continuing a saga but giving people what they wanted to see since Predator 2. I personally think this is a good film but if you are going to watch this (like some of the reviewers) with a pen and a bit of paper and point out the flaws then i suggest reading a book. Watch this for what it is, a film, and at the end either love it or hate it.
